you should get perhaps 4 so u can have 2 pairs to begin with and then can start emerging? Just my thoughts, If u only use 3 I would recommend making 2females and 1male.

Edit: I haven't even started a project yet, so Good Luck and here is a guide to breeding just in case you haven't checked it out yet. https://www.sylestia.com/forums/?thread=370

it's possible to do a 6vis project with 3 essences. May be a little hard though, just make sure all the traits you want is carried in one of the pets. You could create a pair first, then once you hatch a baby, you make the 3rd pet the opposite gender of that baby, so you have a 2nd breedable pair.

Also, using regular essences means there will be some colour swings, so you might want to have some dyes ready. =)

Yes, it's enough. :)
G1 and G2 for the 1st male, G3 and M1 for the 2nd male, and M2 and M3 for the female.
Make sure you don't mess up by creating 2 pets with same gene or mutation slot.
Remember to always keep 2 unrelated males in your stable. And lastly, be careful before releasing any pets, make sure you always have all genes and mutations available. It's not funny if your 6v project end up to be 5v or 4v because you release pets without checking. f(^^; )

Btw, regular essences aren't really accurate with colors so you might need to use a lot of pet dyes for the final products to be looked like what you want.

Thanks to all for helping!!!!

It turn out i'm actually trying to make a 5 vis. But i think the same should apply.

I know the regular essences have a color swing but i didn't think it would be that much. Should i dye pets along the generations or should i just keep breeding till i get my final pair then dye them?

And i don't know whether i should go with Wonderfulb2uty's advice on making 2 first of Luga's advice on making 2 males and 1 female. Both make lots of sense and i'm not sure which one i should choose ?_?

well, it depends on your breeding style. =P

Luga's method is good in that you can mass breed a lot of the babies to the 2nd male. so it's faster.
But this means you either need gender swappers to change the male babies to females, or you need luck that the babies will turn out girls.

My method is slower, but you won't need to worry about the baby's gender in the first round. then in subsequent breedings, you can always breed either pair again until you get a baby with the traits and gender you want.

(and calling me Wonder is sufficient. =) )

Edit: I think whether you dye now or later doesn't make much of a difference =P

Yeah, the same should apply. :)
You can save 50% of your pet dyes if you only dye the final pair. :)

I used to think 2 females are better until someone tell me that 2 males are faster. I did some calculations and 2 males is indeed faster than 2 females. This is because females have breeding cooldown which males don't have. If you choose 2 males, you can always breed the 1st male and female's offspring with the 2nd male if their offspring turned out to be female (after the offspring become an adult). What if you only have 1 male and 2 females? You can only breed with 2 females until you have gen 3 which takes 2 months literally (because offsprings can't breed with their parents). So, 2 males and 1 female is absolutely faster IMO.

I completely forgot about cool downs! That is a very good point!

Ok, i think i've decided to do 2 males and 1 female and i'll dye the pets at the end. Any ideas on how many pet dyes i'll need? I haven't dyed a pet before so i don't really know how it works, apparently pet dyes have a color swing too...

As you know, pet dyes have a color swing, even greater pet dyes disappoint me sometimes. That's why I can't really estimate how many pet dyes you'll need. Sometimes I only need 15 pet dyes (along with some greater pet dyes) but sometimes I need to use more than 20 pet dyes and more greater pet dyes. I usually use a greater pet dye if 2 pet dyes don't give color I want.
