(not sure if this is where I should be asking this:1)

I was wondering if u breed a Vulnyx with a Vulnyx and they both at least carry let's say ChimeraTail(CT) and the child doesn't have isn't even carrying CT. If I breed that offspring to another sylestia that is carrying it or has ancestors that have had it can the trait show up? Perhaps say and great grandmother from the offspring does and it's mate's dad carries it. Would that work if neither mates are even carrying? Sorry if I'm confusing.

If you test the child and the child doesn't have a trait the interested slot (in this case Mutation 2 for Chimera Tail), it will say Mutation Two: None.
That being said, it'll be like breeding a pet with nothing to a pet with a carried trait.

When breeding a pet with nothing (NN) to a pet with a carried trait (i.e. NH for Carried Chimera Tail), it'll only have a 50% of bringing over the carried trait.

Will edit with punnett square in a bit.

Keep this code in mind:

You'll see this same stuff with HH, NH, and NN in the advanced search when you look at pet genetics. o:

So the short answer to your question is: yes, it's possible for the trait to go down, depending on your luck and the offspring.

The long answer with punnett squares is:

On the left, you'll see the square for a pet with carried chimera tail breeding with another pet with carried chimera tail. This results in a 50% chance to get the tail carried (and 25% to get it visible).

If say that your offspring came out with carried tail (on the right), then it'll have the same chances as before when breeding with a carried tail pet.

HOWEVER (I totally forgot to draw this until writing out this quote, but), if you're unlucky and get an offspring with NN (no trait carried OR vis, just nothing), trying to mate it with a pet with the carried tail results in:

There's a 50% of the trait to come out carried, which counts as it going down as a mutation. But for it to show up visible, none at all.
