How is the player's level determined? Just interested, and wondering why it is 60 for almost evryone.

Hey Uranium!

I wondered the same thing for quite a while...but I finally know the answer! When your starter sylestie levels up...so does your level. I am on lvl 35 because my starter Qitari is on Lvl 35.

In addition to what Being said,

Player's level is actually determined by the highest level pet of anything you originally own. Your highest level pet doesn't have to be your starter (for example, you have a wild pet that you caught that's lvl60, but your starter is lvl50, your user level can be 60).

(edit: I bolded "originally own" because you have to be the original owner/catcher of said pet -- you can't buy a lvl60 pet that someone else has, and then your user level goes up.)

It's 60 for everyone because 60 is the current capped limit. The highest zone, Astryl's Tranquility, has lvl55-60 monsters. There's no current zone that has monsters that are higher leveled, so until then, 60 is the capacity. :)

Really? Oh...I am just repeating what I was told. maybe it is the level of the sylestie that you battle with most? I know it has something to do with Sylesties...

I'm not too sure about the "originally own" part, since I've not tested that. But I do know if you level up a pet that's higher than your player level, your level would become the new level you just leveled the pet to.

My sister got a level 59 pet from me when she was around level 30-40ish. Since the pet was a higher level than her player level, she couldn't use the pet in exploration, but could send it on missions. So she used it on missions till it leveled up and reach lvl 60. and when she leveled up the pet, her player level also became level 60.

@Site_Users,

Made a few updates today:

-You can now set User IDs for Breeding. This functions the same way as it does for Sale Prices. Setting a 'Breed to User ID' of 0 will allow all players to breed with that pet, while setting a specific ID will allow only that user to breed with that pet.
-All Users now have a "User Level". This indicates the maximum level of a pet that they are able to command in battle (AKA, Add to Party). You can increase your User Level by leveling a pet that you own either by Battling, completing Missions, etc. You can view your User Level on your Profile Page.
-Standard Genetic Scanners and Standard Genetic Test Kits are now tradeable.

How can you tell if your user level is too high/low whatever
[/quote]

@Radda,

It shouldn't be too high, there are just ways to kinda exploit it beyond where it should be atm.

But you can tell if it's too low if you level a pet to say, Level 30, but your User Level is only 29.

Your User Level should be the level of the highest pet that you've leveled.

The "pet you own" part is basically the difference between:
and

I always thought that was the case, anyways. I never tested leveling up something without battling with it (ie leveling up a pet that isn't originally yours through exp orbs or missions), but the premise of user levels was to have the player level up one of their originally owned pets instead of taking someone else's pet and using that. In the second quoted thread, Krin said that he'd like to revamp it to have less bugs and such, so it isn't so perfect I guess.

My player level is 60, but I don't have a lvl 60 pet that was originally owned by me. Frostfeather, was given to me by gingerpaw.Is that a bug?

Mm, it sounds similar to Wonder's description (I saw it completed missions). I wouldn't know if that's a bug or an intended thing.
