Ok, I know that using a philter will up the stats of the eggs as they hatch... but how are the base line stats set before you do this? How does crossing two pets, with or without philters, work as far as the stats are concerned? Is it a simple average of the two parents stats, or is there some variability in this? I want to create a line of minion griffis to battle with, and want to know how the stat breeding functionally works so I can use what philters i have most effectively, and if crossing out to un-philtered pets is going to cause a problem down the line to keep the bloodlines from being too inbred.
Thanks for any information from those of you who have done this.

When you breed two pets together the baby will be born with stats anywhere in between the two parents. so if the parents had a base strength of 68 and 100, the baby could hatch anywhere from 68-100. If you philtered it, it would get that 68-100 + the philter bonus. Sometimes when you breed two pets that are a long ways apart you get lucky, sometimes you don't.

Thanks! That's kind of what I suspected, but wasn't sure if there was some kind of regular function in there rather than it being random. So the only way to increase the stats is through philters then?

No, it's just faster that way. Hatchlings also get a bonus if you hatch them either to health if you help them, or a random other stat if you let them hatch on their own. Or is that the other way around? I can't remember. But it's a very small gain and not very focused, so philters are much easier.

Oh yeah, forgot about that, since I all too often forget to "help" them hatch, lol. I'll have to watch that more closely.
Do you know what the difference is between the stat boost you get from a lesser philter compared to a greater philter?

If I recall, a lesser philter is +5 of a stat, whereas a greater philter is +20.
Also, one of the options that come from "let egg hatch on its own" is equal to a lesser philter (+5).
