Its not THAT big of a problem but still...
when I finish a battle and the reward window is displayed, I have to click through the list or click skip to keep exploring because the explore button under the window does not work when the reward screen is up

Yep. It's coded to be that way. That's why the 'Skip' button is there - so you can skip it if you don't want to view it.

I think it is intended to work that way. I remember the devs told players about it... Somewhere... *sifts through the forum*
