Hello! First day here on Sylestia, I was just wondering what "faction" is? It's sometimes a reward on my quests and I havent been able to figure out what it is ^^"
(My only guess was something to do with city reputation?)

You are correct, it is related to city reputation. Once you build up enough faction points, you can unlock certain items for sale in the respective city's town hall. Does that answer your question?
