Couldn't find the first thread. I really like this idea, too! I've recolored a few pets and I always find myself putting it off because I don't want to go through the process of flipping between tabs to copy the numbers and letters correctly. This would make it much easier and faster to get the [HEX?] codes right and get to experimenting!
