I'm back with another question- (help)

When breeding for a trait, do both parents need to have/carry it to pass it down as visible?

A visible trait is always passed down, as visible or carried. If two pets with a carried trait in the same slot are bred together, the offspring could have a trait carried (50% chance), visible (25% chance), or nothing (25% chance). It's based on Punnett square genetics, and there's a useful guide with a lot more information here. Hope that helps! :)

also, trait dominance moves down the alphabet, (excluding N which is used as 'nothing/no vis' and is the most dominant)
so N > A > B > C > D > etc

To expand a little bit on what was said with some things I've learned/found helpful here:
If you are trying to do a project one thing I have found helpful is to set the AS to search my account for that species/theme and go one by one setting each trait slot to "either" > [Desired trait] so I can see how many pets have gotten at least a carry for that trait before I do any pruning of the pets in that project. It really helps avoid nasty bottlenecks and lost traits.

It can make sense to hold onto a few subpar babies if they have the poorly carried trait at all since the inbreeding prohibition can quickly make breeding the trait back through difficult.

Good luck with your hatches <3
