I don't know if this has been suggested or not, I tried to look through the forums briefly and didn't see anything, but... I would really like an item that changes either a carried/vis gene/mut to something else of the same slot. Namely I would use it for my faelora project, to change spotted flower to frosted flower because I made them before frosted flower came out, but I think they would look so much better with it.
But I do not feel like trying to add in another gen of parents to try to replace the spotted flower. :P So on the final 4 vis baby I would have, I could just use a potion to change it to frosted. I don't mind if it could only be bought with diamonds, like the greater genetic mutator, I would gladly spend diamonds for it, I want it so bad. But this potion would only change the gene/mut of the same slot and if the trait was carried it would stay carried, and if it was vis, it would stay vis. And on that note a potion to change a carried trait to visable would be cool too. It might help make captured pets more valuable as well, if you find a pet with good colors and a vis trait, but not the right trait, you could change it to the one you want, assuming it's in the same slot of the trait you want. And like a mutator, it could only be used once on a pet, but would be usable on caught AND generated pets. Thoughts?

Had to dig quite a bit for one discussion on it. I also feel the same position for this as I do in this thread regarding making carried traits vis as an item.
If people were able to change the traits of anything they got to anything they wanted so long it was in the same slot, it'd lessen the challenge for breeding. Even more, generated projects are as direct as can be.
I can have a 6vis pet and mutate one of their traits as seen fit once the time comes along that a nicer mutation/gene can take its place. Same with regular generated projects.
tl;dr support for caught pets, mainly because it was suggested before, but not for generated pets, that's a sort of cheap cheat

Well that's just where you and I differ. I understand where you're coming from, not wanting to make breeding less of a challenge, but for me, I like a little challenge, but when's it's taking me months to get the perfect pet I want, I start to get a little frustrated. This is what I don't get, they make this beautiful site where you can create your own unique pets, that no one else has, but yet they make it very time consuming and expensive to ever get just one perfect pet that you created and no one else has. I could spend hours in the generator designing pets, but I don't cause I know I'll never get to them. This is slowly turning into a rant, which I didn't want it to, but I'm getting myself worked up here, so I'll try to cut to the point. I think it's waste to have such a unique system to create pets like these, but have it so hard to get the perfect ones. So yes, it is kind of a cheat, but it wouldn't be cheap, it would cost real money (aka diamonds) and the end result of the pet would be just for me, and not to make a profit and I can move on to my next project, and I'd have less unwanted pets filling up my stables, so who is it hurting?

This is most likely something we won't add. One of the main (if not the main) sources of content for Sylestia atm is new genes and mutations. If there were a way to just alter current pets to use newly released traits, it would greatly devalue the demand for creating new pets, breeding, capturing, etc.
Atm, we allow an unlimited amount of pet dyes to be used which I think is as far as we'll go in regards to altering pets unconditionally.

I also differ from this idea, as i'd prefer the new genes and mutations to be rarer and have a higher value then the old ones :P

Small diversion from topic: Personally, I'd like a way to make visible genes carried, or a mutator that gave just carried... I have a lot of pretty pets that I don't want to gain a visible trait, or ones that HAVE a visible that I'd rather it not have.
On topic: As cool as that feature would be, I'm going to have to agree that it would lower the value of new genes/mutations.
