HOUSE OF ASHES
a supervillain's revenge story. closed, 0/7 slots available
Roleplay Here
Today the nation celebrates the defeat of the notorious Citadel, a villainous organization dedicated to the destruction of the state and the implementation of a superior social order. They smile upon hearing the news of a safer society with the death and capture of the Citadel's operatives, and they cheer at the arrival of the Thunderbird: the world's newest hero, who was raised by the Citadel before realizing their wrongdoings and playing a vital part in their downfall. Now she stands along with her boyfriend, the Typewriter, and the rest of the Sodality, an institution of heroes sworn to protect humanity from forces of injustice.
Little do they know that the remnants of the Citadel crawled out of the ruins left by the Battle of Porchegundy, beaten, bloodied, bruised, but alive. Soon, the world will regret leaving them with breath in their lungs and hate in their hearts.
-- -- --
Hello everyone! Welcome to a roleplay inspired by the Renegade and Cloak Society series, where the main character sees the faults of the villains who've raised them and changes sides to join the heroes, only this time, we'll be telling the story from the perspective of the villains who've been betrayed by their friend.
Our characters will start in the city of Porchegundy, which is the fictional metropolis that was destroyed in the battle between the heroes and villains. They will be living together and recovering from the aftermath of said battle, and the roleplay will explore their return to villain-hood and how their motivations teeter between vengeance and improving the city; a battle between the evil inside them that others fear and the good that they have always believed they were fighting for.

roles
0/7 remaining, claims last for as long as you need. one character per person. feel free to take creative liberties and interpret these roles as loosely as you wish.
apathy: Irayul Makto (Tonowari)
It's in the ruins, that Thunderbird's rival is left to pick up the pieces. With the absence of all the senior members, her equal has assumed the position of leader like they've been trained for since the realization of their talent. Apathy has numerous successes under their belt, but holding their family together will take more than an eye for strategy and power crackling at their fingertips. This will take every drop of charisma, tenacity, and wisdom they ever possessed and then some, because breaking things will always be easier than putting them back together.
paranoia: Nicander (Scoutwolf)
The realization that they were born from another's power terrifies them, like nothing ever before. Despite the maelstrom of power Paranoia holds within them, their demise at the hands of their creator, the Typewriter, seems inevitable. They were born from words, and one day they will return to them, so they move and they fight, leaving tension and destruction in their wake. They will leave a legacy that no writer could even dream of erasing, one that will prove their presence of life as much as any heartbeat.
vacancy: Nathaniel (Jie)
A friend, struck down and left to die in the heat of battle, powers vanishing under the influence of suppressants, Vacancy has returned with more than just their powers missing. There's a sense of weightlessness to their steps, brought not by serenity but by an emptiness in their mind, like they're living life without being present. They left something there, in the wreckage, and they're not quite sure if they'll ever find it again.
envy: Anaemia (Necto)
You are not enough. This is the mantra that's been drilled into Envy. They were left on the sidelines while the others left on missions and were told to train if they wanted to follow. And train they did, finding themself under the Thunderbird's tutelage. But they still weren't enough, and now with their mentor gone, it's impossible not to wonder how they could learn under a teacher that was unsure themself. They're tired of pretending to be perfect, tired of pretending to be someone they're not. And most of all, they're tired of assumptions and expectations. They wish that everyone would just look and see them for all that they are for a change, see everything they have that's just never received recognition.
rage: Angelina (Shayni)
Their revolutionary passion was stoked by their sibling, Thunderbird, in the wake of loss when they wanted to do nothing more than curl up and cry. She gave them her beliefs, and they followed in her footsteps when she joined the Citadel. Now that they've been left with nothing but ashes, Rage burns brighter than ever. Wounds left by those you trust cut deepest, so they'll face the suspicion, rebuild, and return, and when they've faced their sibling, when they've won, they'll ask the question that's been churning in their mind ever since she left. How? How could you leave me here, alone, in the ruins of your shattered belief?
wrath: Kyong (Marionettez)
Before the Thunderbird defected, there were always doubters. Wrath was one of them. They've always known that the Thunderbird was ruthless, having been sacrificed during one of her missions for the sake of success. And when they survived, they returned to find themself a pariah due to their report of Thunderbird's wrongdoings. Now the others have opened their eyes, and they can't help but feel gratified after years of being outcast. Was my betrayal easy to ignore all those years ago in the face of your friend, they want to ask. Is betrayal harder to swallow, now that you're on the receiving side?
ardor: Simon (Cian)
Even in the darkest hour, there will always be those who believe. Ardor witnessed the fall of the Citadel, and they joined anyway, believing in the ability of the remnants to bring about much needed change to the world. Having come along in the aftermath, their only experience with the Citadel and Thunderbird are from the news and the broken people they've left behind. The people who become a little less broken in the presence of their passion, because healing follows in their wake, soft and slow, cleansing pain away with the promise of a better tomorrow. Let us hope that they do not receive a broken heart and shattered dreams in return.

Notable NPCS
Alyssa Meyers, the Thunderbird, Female, 25. Formerly Known as the Shrike. Hero (Sodality)
(Appearance Pending for the Submittal of Rage)
A villain-turned-hero with the ability to fly and manipulate electricity. She was not born into the Citadel like many of the others, and was instead recruited after a spree of vigilantism. A few months ago, she encountered the Typewriter, upon which she began to spend time with him covertly, developing feelings despite their opposing beliefs. The reveal that her childhood tragedy was caused by the Citadel as much as the Sodality has pushed her to switch sides before playing a large role in their defeat at the Battle of Porchegundy. (More details of childhood pending for Rage.)
August Sanders, the Typewriter, Male, 24. Hero (Sodality)
The son of two heroes, who's lived in the public eye for the majority of his life. He has the ability to bring his writing to life, provided that their descriptions are detailed enough, and after following in his parents' footsteps to become a hero, he began to carry around a stash of papers covered in his handwritten work. His usual work involves patrolling the streets and protecting the people, which has earned him favor with the public. Because they love him, his smile, and his story, he's been thrust into the spotlight despite his relatively few contributions to taking down the Citadel and his defeat at the Battle of Porchegundy.

VACANCY
faceclaim: Project Moon's Yi Sang
Name: Nathaniel Wright
Villain Name: the Specter
Age: Twenty-six
Gender: Male (He/Him)
Role: Vacancy
Orientation: Heterosexual, Open to Romance
Appearance: A prolonged period without exposure to sunlight has left Nathan's normally warm skin pasty and pale, with dark bags under his eyes to match. He stands at 5'10" with a slender build, his trim muscle obscured by layers of clothing. His eyes are dark brown, paired with slender eyebrows, thin lips, and limp black hair to create a somber effect.
Powers/Skills: Nathan had the ability to create rifts that lead towards a mirror realm. Inside, there was no down or up, no left or right; there were only unnavigable shadows that twisted the nature of space. Even so, Nathan, call it luck or call it preternatural skill, had a knack for arriving where he wished. In fact, he had a strange sense for directions in general, whether he'd been to a place or not. That's of the past; the power suppressants that Nathan was dosed with have largely incapacitated him. But because he was tagged while stepping between worlds, he's now stuck somewhere in the middle with a formless that comes and goes, allowing him to phase through matter when it does.
Personality: There is something distant in his eyes, but his hands are warm. Nathaniel seeks out the presence of others, with soft words and hoarse laughter, but he's easily distracted despite his awareness. No, maybe it's because of his awareness, which draws his attention towards every small sound, sight, or sensation, that he's easily distracted. He's quick to notice, to move, to pace, to help, and he's just as open towards lending an ear as he is towards lending a hand. In most moments, he would do just about anything to stay with another to chase away the shadows that still cling to him. When he shifts however, it's without warning. His emotions are volatile, and when they move, he runs. It's all he can do to avoid lashing out because when he panics, he needs silence and he needs an outlet--in this case, running or burying his fist in the nearest face or gut; he's not picky about what, just about who.
Motivation: From Nathan's admittingly flawed view, there are plenty of people that have been neglected by the system. This is the world he's witnessed from his parents' side, where people are born and raised on dirty streets before being sorted and conformed, only worsened by his brief stint in the public school system.
Backstory: Nathaniel was born into the Citadel, with parents who believed in their calling to vigilantism. He knows a disappointingly small amount of their lives, with only stories of rare candies lost and stolen bicycles to keep him company now that theyre good. The other members did a similarly good job keeping the darker details of their work from him when they visited, though he was always aware of his family's nature. They believed in a better world, but not one built without a fight and corresponding sacrifice.
His parents tried to avoid pressuring him from joining their work, he thinks. But Nathan was intrigued, and they let him into that world of villainy. He was raised with the other children, learning alongside them and growing close to them, though he was never an active combatant. No, Nathan's work was breaking them into places where they had no right to be and vanishing without a trace when their pursuers tried to follow.
After the betrayal, he found himself trapped in his mirror world, drifting with no way of navigating and no way of escaping. He became something of a shadow himself there, his need for food and water vanishing with the slow, agonizing passing of time. He wandered and wandered and wandered, and one day, he sensed the presence of something otherworldly. The fabric of the mirror world had worn thin near those that he ferried day in and day out, and Nathan found himself reunited with the remnants of his family.

Sorry to bother you; the name section refers to your character's name!
Also, I'm excited to see what you come up with. Consuming animal souls is a unique concept, and I'd love to see how you apply it!

He's accepted. Unfortunately, the art I'm using isn't mine, so I won't be able to draw your character. It's from Limbus Company, and I'm certainly not as skilled as them lol ^^;

Name: Anaemia
Villain Name: The Shattered Mind
Age: She just turned 22.
Gender: Female
Role: Envy (I thought about Wrath, but Envy fits Anaemia better in my head.)
Battle Role: Berserker
Orientation: Pansexual (Open for romance~)
Appearance:
(wow what skilled of a robot [tbf what i'm looking for isn't on the internet so i compromise despite this looking sucky])
Anaemia's rather... short. Or, used to be. Despite being now in her early twenties, the members of the Citadel have noticed that she's had a massive growth spurt. Despite being young(ish), she has some blood on her hands... literally. Anaemia, more often than not, is covered in her victim's blood, caused by the massive... whatever it is that she wields that is larger than her. The thing itself is rather thin but restructures itself to fit her needs, at the cost of her vitality, and occasionally, her allies' or opponents'.
Powers/Skills:
Weakness Exploit - Anaemia is a tactician by heart, and is able to spot the weaknesses of her opponents. As a result, her and her allies (assuming she communicates with them somehow) gain additional "critical rate", or the chance to land a devastating blow, on those weak spots. Consequential Denial - A parry attack. The parry itself deals moderate piercing damage to the aggressor, before getting slammed with a barbed claymore for very heavy bludgeoning and slashing damage, with a hint of Shadow damage. No Pain, No Gain - Anaemia can damage herself or an ally to increase her offensive and defensive capabilities. In doing so, her weaponry deal significantly more damage(which stacks until the battle ends), and for a short time she can steal the life force of her victim and restore the wounded allies and herself. Shattering of the Mind and Soul - A kind of similar ability to Consequential Denial, except an improved version of it in a way. In a parrying stance, she can block up to 3 attacks in quick succession, while draining her vitality to a certain point. She then releases pent-up energy, spiralling with her claymore once, twice, thrice, or four times in a VERY wide radius, depending on the gained charge. If charged all the way; Anaemia's damage output is tripled, her "critical hits" are usually fatal, and her reaction time is drastically increased. In exchange, however, if a single hit is to strike her, she is knocked out and the state is ended immediately. She does have a slight gravitational pull in this state, and she looks like she's been hastily scribbled and two-dimensional.
Personality: Rather cold, as she was, well, raised here. Found as a child by some unnamed person (unless someone wants to take this role, be my guest), she went cold and bitter at the Fall of the Citadel. This also means she is unused to any romantic advances, attraction, or mainly positive feelings. If she is the target of such feelings, she kind of melts. Figuratively, of course. She also really likes chocolate. It keeps her sane.
Motivation: (included in personality, whoops)
Backstory: (WHOOPS INCLUDED IN PERSONALITY LOL)
Other: woah hi again jie hope she isn't too broken lmao
Side Note: This is one of my Steps of Ether characters, so surprise~!

Anaemia looks good. I'll try to have an IC out tomorrow evening, though I'll still be accepting characters if anyone happens across this thread.
