A large star's core imploded roughly one hundred light years from Earth. At first, it was just a star brighter than the rest, almost matching the moonlight on a clear, beautiful night. It shone like that for weeks. Then cancer and mutation rates skyrocketed as the radiation from the supernova slowly wore down the Earth's atmosphere. Decades worth of radiation killed hundreds of millions of species, as just going outside in the daytime could be life-threatening. (This is unimportant, but the radiation also killed most, if not all of the plankton in the ocean, seriously disrupting the ocean ecosystem and leading to mass extinction.)
Worse still, as the atmosphere dissipates, large electric avalanches (aka lightning) begin to torment the Earth's surface. These storms were the worst storms that the surface of the earth has seen in millions of years. The intense lightning causes global wildfires that consume forests and crops, destroying electrical grids and devastating global supply chains. Nations struggled not to be consumed by chaos. Rocketing prices left people fighting for food. Wars broke out, food shortages quickly came as people resorted to stealing. At this point, modern civilization has been set back, who knows how far.
Once everything had calmed down, the radiation still hadn't stopped, as the atmosphere hadn't repaired itself. The intense radiation caused the creatures left alive, and on the surface, to become severely disfigured, causing the skin to turn a sickly green and hair to fall off in large quantities. Not only that, but the radiation affected the brain as well. Skulls could not keep all the radiation out, and the massive amounts of it killed many of the neurons, leaving the affected beings constantly aggressive with no impulse control.
(Quick question before I start this: should they all already know each other or meet up?)

(Okay! Sorry about the delay, I was working on setting another thread up xD Also, I still don't get the reference. What are they off of???)
Charly was hunting for food. Her stomach had been growling since this morning, and she couldn't afford to have anything loud enough to attract the zombies. Her stomach was definitely loud enough. She didn't even have anything to lessen the sound besides the clothes on her back, and those didn't help much. She looked around, wielding a small four-inch blade before sneaking across the road to a supermarket. She wasn't sure how many, if any, zombies would be in there, and she couldn't take any risks. She only had a knife on her, after all.
Myles had holed away in his house, having what seemed like plenty of canned food when the world's downfall began. He was running low at the moment, but he figured if he rationed it right, he had at least a few days' worth. He went upstairs to his bedroom to his dusty, musty bed and looked out the window onto the street. The sun was out at the moment, and it usually kept most of the zombies away from open places, like the street. He had observed that after a few days of being stuck in his house. At first, it seemed like they were everywhere whether the sun was up or not. Then they just kind of...migrated to shadier areas.

(Thats fine. My characters reference Koraidon and Miraidon, the new box art legendaries for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet!)
The siblings were out, hunting as well. They lived nearby, and were trying to find anything to sustain themselves.

(Yeahhhh I know nothing about Pokemon. It was worth a try tho xD Also, it's no worries)
Charly peered in through the glass doors of the supermarket, shielding her eyes from the sun as she did so. Upon not seeing anything, she attempted to open the doors, as they didn't automatically open anymore. She tried to pull them open, wedging her fingers in between the doors and pulling back, hoping it would slide on its track. No luck. "Stupid thing," she muttered, kicking it.
Myles was just chilling at the moment, leaning back on his bed and sighing. What was he going to do?

(I thought the supermarket wouldn't be too far down his street. Don't worry about it, I've been there before and it's so bad!! Anyways my plan was Charly would do something stupid and anyone in 500 yard radius would end up knowing about it xD)

(Fair enough)
Charly, her patience quickly running out and her stomach growing ever louder, kicked the door. The glass part of the door. And we all know that things become more fragile the more time passes. So, the door shattered. The glass cut her leg, and she hissed, going to hold her leg. It wasn't a severe cut, but it stung worse than a paper cut. She was examining the wound when she heard a sound. Her head snapped up. A zombie. Wait, what the...it was a whole hoard of zombies, and they were quick. What an eyesore they were, too. Their green flesh, in some places, revealed the bone beneath. Some had strips of their own flesh hanging off them. Others must've been more...what, fresh? Their skin appeared to be still intact. She took one look at her small blade and screamed. She also started running because what good would standing there do?
Myles sat up quickly in his bed, hearing the shattering glass, then the scream. What was going on? He quickly went to the window, looking out. He couldn't see anything from there, so he ran down the stairs, taking two at a time and hoping he wasn't a clutz at this moment. He reached the ground floor and grabbed a crudely made bat with nails. He tentatively opened the door, looking out up and down the street. He could see a lady running away from...whoa. So many zombies. Fast ones, too.

the siblings also heard the glass shatter, and then the scream. they looked at each other before nodding, and sprinted to the sound. they saw the lady running and ran alongside, while Cory pulled out his bow and began firing into zombies eye sockets, killing them instantly.
