Hey, just thinking, if someone is in region chat who has you blocked the chat gets message of 'a message has been blocked', something like that, to put it simply. How about no message? Because this message kind of pushes up the other chat messages honestly, I had to scroll up to read some chat messages.
Just a little thought, I just don't think that is honestly needed.
My second thought is, maybe some people don't want to know the person blocked is even in chat, the point of blocking is to not see messages from people you don't want to interact with, but the messages appear in chat indicating said person is there? Kind of not a fan, could start potential drama if you have someone with curiosity asking about it. Might as well save future drama and remove it, if someone in chat is addressing them, i mean, yeah the person probably figures it out that said person is there, but you don't need to see a message that someone who is blocked is active in chat.
As well as if you have someone who is really chatty, you will probably get ALOT of that popping and piling up, also not good for people who are trying to chill and read chat.

I agree with the OP, comparing this to discord in a way cause it's the main thing I know that's kinda close. Blocking someone but still seeing 'blocked message' defeats the purpose. When you block someone, you want them GONE, you don't even want to think about them or see them or be reminded of whatever discomfort they caused you or WORSE.
On another pet site, Flight Rising? When you block someone, it closes them off pretty well. I believe messages are hidden, you don't see threads they make or anything like that. You don't see stuff they have for sale in the auction house either. They're just, GONE. And I think that makes for a good and proper block system.

Thanks, honestly I agree, we don't need indication of a message being blocked, just, whoosh, keep it gone gone, don't stir any potential drama, don't peak any curiosity.

^ i agree with this sentiment.
if it ever becomes implemented for forums, I think there is a very good case for it displaying "message from blocked user," but for the RC it can cause a bit of clutter. especially if the person in question is blocked because of harassment or spam (but wasn't banned from RC) that may not have broken site rules.
that being said, i'm not sure how practical of an addition that would be.

There were two lines of thinking to this and we ultimately had to choose one. Ideally, we would let the players decide how they want it to act, but that requires extra work to code an interface and a place for settings to be saved.
Method 1: The messages never show up in any capacity.
This is as is being suggested. The issue here is the following hypothetical situation that we wanted to avoid:
Blocked Player: Does anyone want this pet?
Random Player 1: I'll take it
You: You'll take what?
Random Player 1: Blocked Player is asking if anyone wanted their pet.
You: Oh, I have them blocked lol
I feel pretty confident in saying that situations like this would arise over time and it's definitely something we would want to avoid happening as it would absolutely stir up drama and make the 'Blocked Player' immediately feel bad. No matter what, nobody wants to be in that position and every player is a human being on the other side of the screen.
Additionally, this situation would also still cause the player to "think" about the 'Blocked Player'.
Method 2: A small, subtle notification that a message has been blocked.
This is obviously the method we went with at this time. The only issue here is that each blocked message makes you think about who or what was blocked. However, I felt that players would get used to this over time and eventually stop paying attention to the notification. Atm, it's brand new, so every player probably notices it every time it happens.
Method 3: A small, subtle notification that a message has been blocked with the option to view the message
This is the same as Method 2, however, with the option of clicking to view who/what was said. We felt this was the worst option as probably almost everyone would just view the message anyway out of curiosity and then nothing would really be accomplished.
As I said, ideally, the best solution is allowing the player to choose the functionality and I imagine we will do that eventually. However, at this point in time, we have to choose the best method for players until I have available time to code a more in depth solution.

hmm, I like your first option more, since apparently if they have me blocked I cannot view their message, just as they can't view mine so they cannot see what I'm selling regardless.
So i think its okay honestly, I'd like to just not even know they're there. obviously, if someone mentions their name I'd know. But personally I would feel better with that way than the others. I did realize there is a clutter situation and I am aware some players have alot of people blocked so this is in consideration for them not to receive clutter(I'm pretty sure a pop up message you can choose to read or not may annoy them as well).
Honestly I guess, if it was an accidental block, the blocked player can take the initiative to message another player to relay the message for them.
Other than that it seems more preferable to not have any messages of indication. I'm pretty sure they'd catch on anyways that someone who is blocked is in chat, which honestly is fine, less drama less wanting to 'peek in'.
So i think the first option is fine, i mean, curiosity killed the cat but honestly, I'm sure as said we'd figure out the situation fairly fast?
Maybe the person will understand context and just not draw or call out attention to it and just assume there's probably a blocked person?

Blocking a player is not two-way. They will still see your messages unless they also decided to block you.
