I also got some ancient chests that gave out 4 tokens. Also some wooden shovels/rods but I don't remember if those used to be part of their drops or not.

Just grabbed a screenshot of it giving me 4 tokens:

I'm 99% sure they gave way more before. I don't remember them giving out gold before either, but might be wrong about that.

I didn't change any of that for this year's Summer Festival. All of the zone nodes are the same.

I do think though that Esior's Cove uses different graphical chests than the other zones, or at least Astryl's Meadow. So that's probably why it's confusing. It's just a different loot table system from one festival to the other.

well, there are both the regular and ancient treasure chests, so it's not that the cove uses different graphics.
But honestly I never detected any noticeable difference between the two types anyway?

Never been sure why there were two different kinds given what seemed to me to be the seemingly identical drop tables, though it seems given this thread that other people have registered different experiences with them?

There's different loot tables between the different nodes.

Regular Chests and Flotsam = lower tier
Ancient Chests and Floating Crates = higher tier

Just tossing my own observations of regular vs. ancient chests in here: the degree of difference seems to depend on the fest. In fall and winter fest I find that there is a marked difference between the regular and ancient chests, with the ancient chests giving rather larger rewards. However, in both fall and winter, ancient chests are only found in the secret areas, so that could also be part of why their rewards are so much 'better'.

I believe the same phenomenon happens in spring fest, but my memory is failing me at the moment on that (nevermind that it was the most recent fest), so don't quote me on that.

For summer fest, though, the ancient chests are just kind of out there with the regular chests, and they do seem to have a lesser difference between their rewards compared to other fests. Rather than getting 10 tokens from an ancient chest, like you might in other fests, you might get four (compared to a regular chest's 1 or 2 normally), or you might find 1,000 gold instead of the few hundred you'd usually get from a regular chest. Summer fest ancient chests I feel are more like high roll regular chests, rather than the really obviously better chests of the other fests. Whether that's because they aren't in hidden areas though, might be a larger factor than the chests themselves.

Yep, that is definitely all pretty accurate.

In general, in regards to the Summer Festival, a lot of its rewards (across all features) are funneled through Beach Treasure Seeking. Typically, per Festival, you guys claim literally hundreds of thousands of rewards from Beach Treasure Seeking (we are almost at 15,000 in less than 24 hours). So other areas give a bit less on the surface because you end up with tools that then give you another round of rewards.
