Ok so I was trying to set up my Sylesti Generator so I could see what one of my pets would have looked like with Genes and/or Mutations... however I seem to keep hitting a common snag.
A few times already when I copy/paste a hex or even type it in it keeps changing one digit of the Hex color. Sometimes I can fix it and show the proper color but sometimes it doesn't want to work at all! Is there a trick to getting it to cooperate? Also is there away to view the hex codes of pets instead of the RGB codes?
Oh this is the color I've been trying to get the gen to accept
9BEB04
But it keeps giving me this
9aeb04
I know the color I'm trying to get should work because it's the color that is on the pet as far as I can tell x.x

It doesn't matter if the letters are in caps or not. Sylestia just converts all caps in hexes to lowercase.

It's not the caps thing. It's literally changing the code. For that code I posted it changed the 2nd digit from a "b" to an "a" and keeps changing it no matter how many times I try to change it back to "b"

I just plugged those 2 hexes into an image code on a sylesti, and they look exactly the same to me. I wouldn't sweat about the code if the colors are the same to the eye.

I admit for that one color it doesn't seem to be different, however, I've had it do it to another color and it made it a completely different color (but it was an easy to fix one it just gets annoying)
Do you happen to know how to view the actual hex codes for pets on the site? I know i can just hover over the color but that doesn't mean my memory is well enough to remember what that color was when I got to test it for colors in the gen XD

If you're using Mozilla Firefox or Chrome, you can use something called "ColorZilla". Faiona uses it.
All you need to do then is click on the eyedropper then click on the color you want and it copies the hex to your clipboard.

For colros you can also use the iamge url. All you do is right click and then select "copy image url." Then you can paste it into a url bar. You will see a species, gender, and a bunch of letter pairs (those determine carries, vis, etc, btw) and after that are the colors. They are in order from eye color to mutation color 3. (It will look like this: md1c=f0f5ef. This particulor one is for mtuation color 1 of my tank) You can also more easily view adult version of hatchlings by going all the way to the end wher eit says maturity=___. All you have to do is add a 0 to the end of that number, and you will see the adult version. (so if it is 72, make it 720. I'm not sure of the exact number it has to be to make it an adult form, so i just add 0 XD)
-hopes i didnt confuse you-

Just so you know, you aren't alone. I find this happening sometimes also, and even sometimes in Wardrobe. It usually doesn't matter too much; often the color is close; but it's still frustrating; and in the pet maker that could be downright dangerous given that certain potions don't show true. So if your code is off by a little to begin with because it won't listen, or won't take the code you're typing right; the potential for coming out WAY off color becomes deadly. Well. Not deadly, just increases the ugly potential.
I don't have a suggestion to fix it; but when I've had it happen I just go back to it later, and often that helps. I have noticed that it does it when I've been in a screen where you play with the colors for a long time. Like it gets confused or something.

We currently use a JQuery plugin as our color picker. It uses an algorithm to come up with the hex codes based on the #s. It will sometimes "round" to a slightly different value.
When we revamp our Generator page, we are going to switch to an HTML 5 color picker. I imagine it will function much better and probably won't do this.
For the meantime though, there is nothing that can be done. The slight changes though aren't at all noticeable though if that helps.
