A long time ago in a Galaxy far, far away there was magic. There had to be, of course, because magic is a foreign thing, something that could not be harnessed for an intellectual's purpose. Therefore, magic did not exist in The World.
And yet, call it a miracle, call it luck, or call it chance, magic did exist; it is a simple, unexplainable occurrence better described as magic. People on The World didn't recognize it. They couldn't. Even as people had a natural gift, an innate magic, or a special talent, they blinded themselves to the possibility of a fantastical explanation for it. Magic had to be more impactful and dramatic.
It seems one day magic got fed up. Tired of being passed off as a happenstance, magic played a card it never had before.
It infected The Inhabitants of The World.
It came quietly, stole through the town it had decided to target in a swirling mass, seemingly an innocent blue cloud. It descended and made its mark, causing people to change. Different forms of magic were now available to the people. Some of The Inhabitants did not trust this strange evolving, this unexplainable change of events, especially when the magic kept spreading. That started the hunting for people infected with the magic, magic that no longer could be accepted as a blessing, but a curse.
Now, nobody could deny the existence of magic.

(Feel free to ignore the above.)

Name/Nicknames: Brooks Hedge
Age: 22
Personality: He doesn't want to have to worry about taking care of others or others taking care of him and him owing them something . If he threatens you, he honestly means it and you better watch out for the promised retaliation. He hates breaking promises. He is a bit of a ham, willing to act and be goofy; he just needs a friend to do it with. He tends to act grumpy when around those he doesn't know/ trust.
Gender: male (he/him)
Sexualiy: poly
Appearance: (not my art/picture but hes definitely the type of person to have an energy drink on hand and a knife in his pocket)
Power: Changing shape or form. He has to thoroughly study a person (or myth or animal) in order to change into it. He still has to work on accents, languages, and handwriting if he wants to really sell a shift and, being a ham, he usually does just for the fun of it.
Strengths: He's become very good at pretending to be grumpy, so it's hard to tell whether or not he is actually upset; he's always been interested in acting and isn't afraid to exaggerate or pretend to be something he's not.
Weaknesses: He's become so good at pretending to be annoyed that it's hard to tell whether or not he is actually upset; he is faking confidence until he gets it.
Likes: Being left alone, it's a love-hate relationship with people; attention and being appreciated; caffeine.
Dislikes: Being left alone, it's a love-hate relationship with solitude; being ignored or left out of something or being told he isn't good enough, the latter the most likely to get him motivated to do something/fix his act.
Fears: Not being enough for people, or rather, being so incompetent that people he loves will leave him.
Background: Lived a fairly normal life with a rocky relationship with his family. He left his family as soon as he could, going to college to get a degree in musical acting, something his family did everything to discourage. He finished the degree he wanted and performs regularly at the local theater.
Other: He works with the force, had been working with them before but not officially or anything.

***

Name/Nicknames: Aliyah Fletcher "Lolly"
Age: 21
Personality: Has a very innocent air about her and she has experience with switching strangers to friends. She is extremely loyal to her friends and has a hard time accepting betrayal or when someone is using her. She is hard to forget and hard to ignore. She also tends to have the latest round of gossip but she wont tell you where she was last night.
Gender: female (she/her)
Sexualiy: heteromantic omnisexual
Appearance: (not my art/picture)
Power: Going freaky fast. Like the Flash from DC Comics or Dash from Disney's Incredibles or something. She tends to use this to finish chores or get out of trouble.
Strengths: She is good at stating her opinion and what she thinks; she will beat you at pun battles; she is mentally strong and won't let anyone shake her belief in what she knows -or believes to know- is true.
Weaknesses: She is stubborn; she refuses to uphold responsibilities, and will do things when you tell her not to and don't do things when you tell her to do it; she is a sucker for a pretty face.
Likes: She loves being in charge, keeping cats and mice as pets, and playing games that involve some thought, such as chess.
Dislikes: Being underestimated, brushed off and ignored, and she really doesn't like cotton candy or pizza.
Fears: Dogs; she is very afraid of dogs. And heights. Even mentioning heights can make her dizzy.
Background: She grew up in a little nothing town where everyone knew and loved each other - or has had years to harbor hatred against another. Her family has a great sense of tradition but loved seeing each other happy. She and her older brothers got in a lot of trouble but eventually calmed down enough to be of some help around the farm. When the Brown's adopted the teenager Cameron, the town was reluctant to accept the youth and even put some distance between the rest of the Browns and themselves. Aliyah, like in so many other occasions, threw caution to the wind and included Cameron. They quickly became best friends and you couldn't see one without the other. Aliyah and Cameron were thought to be out of town when the magic pretty much get their entire village, so they've been left alone.
Other: Only a few people know that she has been infected with magic. Both Cameron and she do a good job in hiding it. She is helping run an underground system and helping those with magic run away.

Name/Nicknames: Cameron Leviticus Jenkins Brown "Cam"
Age: 24
Personality: Though ze will memorize your name and can recognize you if you meet zir later, ze rarely accepts someone as a friend. Most people take a liking to zir the first time they meet zir. Ze has a pretty chill vibe. Ze thinks zirself a very good judge of character. Prefers cooking in the kitchen or exploring the acres of land zir family owns to dealing with people and the like.
Gender: gender nonconforming (ze/zir preferred, but pretty chill with pronouns and won't correct people)
Sexualiy: demisexual biromantic
Appearance: (not my art/picture)
Power: Seeing dead, often dismissed/passed off as PTSD flashbacks. Ghosts and other ethereal beings, often mutilated and disfigured, are not something ze enjoys being able to witness. Ghosts tend to be friendly, don't like to be ignored/forgotten.
Strengths: Being silent, seen not heard, and getting into places ze shouldn't be allowed into; ze knows how to focus and get a job done.
Weaknesses: Being quiet so often and previously having had everyone one of zir ideas get shot down, ze doesn't know when to speak up, for zirself or others; zir power is bringing back some very harsh memories and zir mental health is rapidly decreasing, as is zir capacity to be around and interact with others.
Likes: Solving puzzles; spending hours in the library; learning new languages; having one or two very close friends around zir as often as possible.
Dislikes: Being inept during social interactions and not knowing enough.
Fears: Being around too many people and being left alone with someone ze doesn't know well.
Background: Cameron had been a passenger during a car crash that killed the other people in the car, even if they didn't die right away. This experience scarred zir and for a while ze wouldn't talk to anyone. Ze was adopted by the Brown family (ze were under 18 @ the time). The night was a blur and not much is known about the events. Now that Cameron can see ghosts, well, we'll leave it at the fact that it's really not pleasant.
Other: Not many know that Cameron can see ghosts and was affected with magic.

Name/Nicknames: Kailani Hale "Kai"
Age: 19
Personality: One to worry and fret over things they're sure they forgot. Has a habit of having to check things multiple times over before putting them aside and acknowledging that she's done the best she can. She's a marshmallow, easily giving into pressure and being soft and sweet with those who ask her for anything.
Gender: nonbinary (they/them and she/her)
Sexuality: unsure , probably pan
Appearance: (not my art/picture)
Power: n/a . They don't have magic; they are wickedly good at playing the guitar, though, if that counts.
Strengths: Playing guitars, both acoustic and electric; remembering information; follows instructions to the best of her abilities.
Weaknesses: overthinking; depends on others to boost their mood and keep them entertained.
Likes: Music; not worrying about things; being able to act however she wants around Brooks; strawberries and bubble gum; going to the gun range, even if it isn't to shoot a gun.
Dislikes: Expectations, usually ones they put up for themself; hot chocolate and bananas; watching jump scare movies unless there's popcorn; the smell of oranges; being interrupted.
Fears: Forgetting things.
Backstory: Moved from a place to where there was next to no people to a city full of them. She's still studying for a masters degree in photography. WIP.
Other: Pretty close buddies with Brooks since they were pals before the magic threw a fit and hit random places.

***

Name/Nicknames: Ariel Patterson (pronounced ahreeuhl)
Age: around 8 years old
Personality: extroverted and sometimes anxious, yet occasionally sneaky. He's the type of child that just spells out trouble most of the time but in the nicest way; he'll prank you by doing the dishes for you and mow your lawn so he can demand of you all your money (he thinks a dollar is a lot of money).
Gender: male
Sexuality: n/a at the current time, he just wants friends and a reliable caretaker or two.
Appearance: (not my art/picture)
Power: Looking cute and being stubborn. . . I'm joking, that's not really his power. His power is being the master of illusion. As of now, his limits are those of prestidigitation or minor illusion in D&D. Stagnant or otherwise the size of his palm; the convincingness of the illusion is dependent on how stressed he is.
Strengths: Being adorable and stubborn; doing the right thing while believing he's being such a rebel; helping out and getting people to smile.
Weaknesses: Candy because he'll do most anything for candy and sugar; if you praise him, he will continue to do anything to keep your affection; knowing right from wrong; he has literally no sense of danger and will run into the street without looking or follow strangers who do not have his well being in mind.
Likes: Candy; watching horror/jump scare movies; attention and praise; thinking he's smart and a rebel.
Dislikes: Talking; getting in trouble; seeing people get hurt verbally or physically; adults setting rules he agrees with.
Fears: The dark and birds.
Backstory: His parents couldn't keep him because they couldn't take care of him (and other reasons). He's been passed around his aunt's and uncle's and other family members like hand-me-down clothes; there's a few families currently working together to support Ariel since they're determined to give Ariel a slightly more normal childhood and not have to be moving around anymore.
Other: He is very well known in the community; it'd be strange for someone to not know him.

Name: Tanja Mayes. "Tira/Tiramisu"
Age: 17
Personality: Reclusive and quiet. Every single thing about her feels like a mystery that needs to be solved, and frankly it's about that difficult too. She's quite shy and a tad socially anxious, and freezes up when somebody asks her about herself.
Gender: Female
Sexuality: From what little people can glean about her, she seems to be bi
Appearance: Small and short, moderately tan skin with freckles. She has long, slightly hectic curly black hair. Her eyes are a deep hazel, though her hair usually hides them. She's very wiry, with a long face and stature despite being short. There's a pair of horns hidden under her frizzy hair.
Power: When her emotions get extreme, whether that be happiness, fear, sadness, or any emotion, she turns into a white-tailed deer. She retains all her human sentience and intelligence, and remains a deer until she chooses to turn back. She can speak in her deer form, though not nearly as well as she can in human form.
Strengths: Keeping control of her emotions, keeping her deer form hidden
Weaknesses: Social interactions, being honest and open, public speaking
Likes: Alone time, animals (insects included), science and history
Dislikes: Talking with unfamiliar people, people who dislike animals and/or bugs, loud or sudden noises
Fears: Losing her friendships, people knowing her true feelings and hating her for it, being hunted as a deer
Background: People aren't sure what's happened to her, but a lot of her anxieties seem to come from something in her past.
Other: none

Name: Mysli Osnowa (pronounced as "mish-lee")
Age: 18
Personality: Charming, romantic, and charismatic on a superficial level. People who don't know him very well often leave the conversation happier than they were when they started it, and often look forward to more chats. But, people who know him well understand his temper, not-so-great problem solving, and overprotectiveness of Tanja. He can be a bit haughty and also quite cold and harsh to people who make him mad, though he does still care deeply for those who can manage to stay friends with him.
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Romantically grey and asexual, but he flirts with all genders anyways
Appearance: Tall and broad, looking a bit more mature than he is. He's not super muscular, but he does have muscle tone and he happily flaunts it. His hair is a moderately dark brown, cleanly cut but often allowing a few strands to get in his face. His eyes are a deep green, with flecks of deep hazel dotted throughout that make his eyes seem brown in some lighting. He's quite pale, despite being often outside, though he does have hints of a tan in some places.
Power: He hasn't quite figured out the details, but if he hums people seem to listen to him more than usual. He's still figuring out the rest, if there even is a rest.
Strengths: Being appealing to strangers, protecting Tanja, getting what he wants
Weaknesses: Keeping appeal as people get to know him, solving problems non-problematically
Fears: He pretends he doesn't have any, but he dreads losing Tanja.
Background: He's got rich parents and is very used to getting what he wants when he wants it. They forced him out of the house when he was 16 and he's still not used to working minimum wage and being lower-middle class.
Other: None currently

Name: Kaylee Ingat
Age: 21
Personality: Intuitive and extremely active. If she's not doing at least 5 things at once, she feels like she's wasting time. She's got a lot of talents in mostly athletic activities, but she's also great at acting, singing, dancing, and digital art. When she's not making herself busy with one of her many extracurricular activities, work, or hobbies, she tends to socialize with others. She's thoughtful and empathetic, often the unofficial therapist of the friend group. She's usually the first to notice if somebody is acting unusually, whether that be because they're sick, or unhappy, or wanting to announce something good. It sometimes nearly feels like she's reading their mind, with how quickly she can notice.
Gender: Paragirl
Sexuality: Questioning
Appearance: Looks like a typical college athlete in terms of bodily physique. Her hair is short, no strand going below her chin, and is dyed black with blue & pink streaks. Her skin is a deep brown, and is well-kept with little-to-no blemishes. She has faint freckles across her face, though they're hard to notice. Her eyes are a sapphire blue, though she has some slight sectoral heterochromia in her left eye, which has some green segments. There's a benign but noticeable scar that arches across her left arm, from an unlucky run-in with a dog when she was little.
Power: Extremely sharp senses. She can hear peoples' heartbeats and their blinking, and can smell when they're upset. She uses these senses mostly just to pay even more attention to how they're feeling.
Strengths: Empathy & sympathy, helping others, learning new skills
Weaknesses: Letting herself rest, sticking with things that she's not immediately good at
Fears: Not keeping up with her peers talent-wise, not knowing if somebody's hurting
Background: She comes from a family where not guessing somebody's emotions could mean being hurt. She doesn't speak with them anymore, but the residual effects can be clear sometimes.
Other: None

Name: Feidan (Fay-dahn) Duyinlinghun (Do-yeen-ling-when), usually goes by Fey-Day since their full name can be difficult to pronounce
Age: 24
Personality: Has a strange sense of humor that people tend to either love or hate. They often will insist on random, but incorrect, topics, such as claiming cats don't actually hiss or that they don't know what milk is, as a joke. This can irritate people who either aren't in on the joke or don't find it funny. They speak in long sentences, usually with equally long (and generally unnecessary) words, which can make the jokes even more confusing to those who don't understand Feidan's sense of humor. They are generally quite laid-back, but also very extroverted and will often come over to random people to chat. They're very hit-or-miss with friendships, but tend to stay long-term friends with those who like their sense of humor.
Gender: Non-binary, though they tolerate being called she/her if the person hasn't met them before
Sexuality: Ace & grey, but attracted to women on the rare occasion they do get a crush on somebody
Appearance: In the conventional sense, they're very attractive, with a mostly symmetrical face and few blemishes. Their black hair frames their face pleasantly, and their eyes are a striking, almost unnatural-looking shade of bright green. They're well aware that they're attractive, and like to flaunt this with clothes that frame their body in positive ways. Though they're enby, they do look very feminine and like to flaunt this as well both so they can mess with people who call them a she for too long and so they look even prettier.
Power: Their power is more a mix of a few smaller abilities. They aren't bothered by cold temperatures, even freezing temperatures, are able to use their looks to manipulate people (though they refuse to), and can manipulate shadows into being temporarily physical objects if they focus (though this takes a lot of energy and they can't do it to many shadows at once)
Strengths: Social skills, understanding beauty standards
Weaknesses: Not turning everything into a joke
Fears: Not being found to be funny anymore, not being thought of as pretty
Background: Their family came to America when they were 15, but they've been 'weird' far before they arrived in another culture. They weren't well liked back home, so they've worked very hard to become likeable. They've found jokes make them more pleasant to be around, but now that's what their whole identity is built around.
Other: Works with the force

Do you want to start or should I? I'm fine with starting if you don't want to.
I'm wondering about the location of Tanja/Tira (and relationship with the characters she is close to)? Is she in more of a suburban, a rural, an urban, or other type of community? So I know approximately where your character is in relation to mine (though I am willing to make more because I'm strange like that). Brooks is suburban but more urban; Cameron and Lolly are more rural but they're working their way more suburban to urban as they expand their influence and can help more people.

Brooks takes a sip of the caffeinated drink he had brought along, looking at Kai calmly as though to get the anxious youth to calm down with his glance. "Of course there's a system that's working to get Magics out of The Force's sphere of influence. I mean, The Force hasn't been really up-front about what they're doing with those infected once they find them."
Kai's gaze darts around the fairly open street and they nod. They calm down some and watch the few people also out for a leisurely stroll keep their distance. Kai sighs and reaches for Brooks hand to link pinkies with him, a habit that had formed before the Wild Magic blew into their lives.

A Rural Community was crawling with The Force. They had been ever since the last mist had poured through their town. Cameron and Aliyah had already been passed off as harmless since they supposedly hadnt been around when the mist had come in. The few people that could hide their powers Cameron and Aliyah had been keeping an eye on and trying to keep them under The Forces radar.

Tanja is quietly walking down the street. She's keeping to herself, clinging tightly to her small satchel as if somebody's going to snatch it away, and walking at a quick pace. Her hair is messy, full of fly-aways and strays, hiding nearly half her face and surely obscuring her vision. She eyes the group nervously, but not for long as she doesn't want to call attention to herself.

(Sorry for long reply. I'll try to not make it too long.)

"Kai, I'm not sure you want to hold my hand." Brooks says hesitantly, unsure of why they would want to hold his hand since they knew he had been infected with magic. He wasn't sure what would happen if he touched someone without magic: would they get infected too or would something worse happen to them or would they be fine?
"I'm not afraid of you or your magic; you're the one afraid and I'm not sure why. You're infected and you have built connections within The Force to keep mostly out of their grasp. What is there to fear? Holding my hand shouldn't be a hard thing to do." Kai holds out her hand insistently.
Brooks nods once, searching in his pocket for the picture of himself when he was around Kai's age (because otherwise he felt he was too tall) and, once he obtained it, proceeded to shift into the form. His height decreased slightly and his hair grew a bit lighter in color. Then he simply returns the photo to his pocket and reaches to take Kai's hand with his own.
"Show off." Kai teases him, sticking their tongue out at him when they notice the difference. They look around once more and spot Tanja but don't approach even though they notice her looking hesitant and kind of frightened. That was more Brooks thing, approaching possible magic-users.

(Earlier) Aliyah shrugs on her coat, casting a glance sideways at Cameron, who stands near the kitchen looking hesitant. "What? We need to do something. We can't just let all of our friends and family get taken by The Force and submit to whatever they're doing to those with magic."
Cameron stays quiet and heads to check out the window to watch outside for danger. The Force, wearing their bands of red and gold, had been knocking on doors though they had met resistance in many of the places. Magic was difficult to control at first, that's what experience had shown, and some people had done more damage than ever intended.
Cameron and Aliyah were in the Pheonix family's house - most lot of them had gotten infected and Farren Pheonix had pretty much begged them to help him and his family.
It was times like this when Aliyah grew fed up with the world and became desperate to change it and be the change. She usually had to convince Cameron to get in on the plan and zir current silence got on her nerves slightly.
"We've got to do something for the people. People - like Farren - are willing to set up a system to protect those they love, even if they have something new like magic. As long as someone starts it." Aliyah had prompted.

(Current Time) Cameron stands by the window, looking out into the street. Aliyah had left already to find edible things for the people they were housing. Farren had eagerly accepted to the role of keeping the few they had been able to keep safe from The Force. A few other people that had been left unmarked by the spurt of magic had accepted different roles from escorting people to and fro safe spots - once they were made, which would be some time everyone supposed because this section of resistance had just risen - to creating new identities if needed, to simply supplying the group with food or other necessities.

(Changed The Force's colors to red and gold)

She heads over to the nearby cafe, keeping a far distance from the group. It's mostly outdoors, and the way she makes a beeline for a specific seat makes it seem like she may be a regular there.

Kai nudges Brooks and nods towards Tanja. Brooks looks towards Tanja and then looks to Kai again. "What?" He asks, looking back and forth again, trying to see what she was hinting at.

Aliyah is at the cafe, eating munchies and crunchies while sorting through the bag of take out food to deliver to Cameron, Farren, and the others.
