I really want to talk about how progressive animated shows have gotten to the point where even adults are getting into them, both in LGBTQ representation and in mental health awareness!

Now, I think we all know that Steven Universe is one of the OG's that had both and showed it wonderfully [especially in the movie and 'steven universe: future'], but do you have any others that you guys are fond of?

Personally, Infinity train tops almost all, it has an interesting main idea that almost anyone could find cool, it talks about healthy coping mechanisms, mental health, emotional recovery, and it has new characters every season. Most characters you see in each season you've met a few times before, and it never really feels like there wasn't complete clarity with the characters ending, it just sums up their arc perfectly! I do wish there were more seasons or some kind of sequel, but I'm very happy with it regardless.

Honorable mentions:

She-Ra and the Princess' of Power - Lesbian rep, Gay rep, everything rep, immaculate mental health rep, wonderful plot, a reboot of an old show that gave the characters so much more depth.. watch it please if you haven't already.

The Owl House - Fantastic LGBTQ representation, it's not thrown in your face in a way that makes you think the creators just did it to appeal to more people, it's just there and accepted, and it's great. Season 2 deals more with the emotional side of it. Unfortunately, it's being canceled for lack of viewership and because Disney is notoriously homophobic, by canceled I mean it's only getting a couple of specials for s3, a rushed unsatisfying ending.

Craig of The Creek - it doesn't really have a lot to do with mental health and LGBTQ rep, but it very nonchalantly has some LGBTQ characters and I think that's a great way of normalizing it to the audience. Heavily directed more towards kids, but I still liked it LOL.

Bojack Horseman - Canonically asexual characters, and doesn't make it into derogatory jokes like several other shows do [like Family Guy and American Dad who constantly make jokes aimed to poke fun at LGBTQ community and mental health, it's not a bad show but I don't have a lot of respect for it anymore]. Bojack horseman also has mental-health-related topics in it, but this one is definitely intended for young-adults-adults.

Kipo and the age of Wonderbeasts - LGBTQ rep, and I'd like to think it has some metaphors for mental health, but that's just me. It has two canonically gay characters and one character who is under the transgender umbrella as far as I know. I really liked watching it over quarantine.

I'd love to hear your guys' opinions, do you guys have any personal favorites that involve these topics?

The Dragon Prince has a lot of representation, but the way they present it is incredible. Like, its just in there, and no one in that universe questions it, because its normal for them, and I really like that about it.
Theres loads of LGBTQ rep, two biracial siblings are main characters, a deaf character whos a general, and probably more I cant currently think of.

I haven't seen Amphibia or RWBY yet, but I have no idea why I didn't think of The Dragon Prince, Gravity Falls, or Adventure time! I didn't watch very much Adventure time but I watched enough to know how good it was with everything, I think Gravity falls had it a little too coded than saying anything outwardly [except for the two police officers], but I do believe that Dipper and Mable are canonically neurodivergent as that is heavily coded in. I think Mable has ADHD and is autistic and dipper is autistic [based on several interactions and actions in general], I think a lot of people would typically think of Sheldon Cooper from The Big Bang Theory when they're thinking of autism but that's really not a very accurate representation, while there are autistic people who are like that its an overused stereotype in media, and that confuses a lot of neurotypical people into thinking everyone with autism is this one way.

This was a really great show! The Dragon Prince had a bit of a weird animation style [in my opinion], and I think that's what threw me off at first, but I wound up really liking it when I watched it, I was really excited when I saw how much was included in it.
