So I'm running around with fire pets.
Purple nightfall bandit uses taunt.
Rather than my multi-target attacks just targeting the purple bandit and still hitting other targets, ALL damage goes to the one bandit.
I'll have like, 6 charges of combusting debuff on a single enemy that dies immediately after. (2x fire pets, 3x enemy, 6 combusting debuffs going out since it affects all enemies on the field, and ALL 6 hit the ONE enemy)
If that's how its meant to be, it seems a waste of a skill that's meant to hit ALL enemies. Huge waste of mana :/

That is how the Taunt debuff works and why it is used as a mechanic for tanking. So in this instance, everything is working as intended. The Brigands are placing a Taunt on your pets forcing all of the damage to hit the Brigand - thus protecting the Brigand's allies.
It functions the same way for Earth and Shadow pet's Taunts. However, there are some Named/Boss special abilities that will ignore the Taunt effect and still hit all pets. This is done for mechanics reasons to prevent ways to cheese difficulty encounters. But in general, Taunt works the same for everything.
