She shrugged, holding her arm where she was burned. "I've heard stories...only when the kids go in to get fixed up...they never come back out."

(Gonna take a little control here, and everyone's in their cell at the moment bc it's night)

They came without warning. One minute, Vic was asleep, the next she was shunted back into Furnace by a siren that wouldn't end--a continuous blast that wove itself around its own echo until the prison quaked. At first, she thought it was the wake-up call, but it was still pitch-black and she knew from her internal clock that it was the dead of night.

Riley puts his hands over his ears, sitting upright in his bed and trying to calm his heart, which somehow raced each time the siren went off. He scoots closer to Shade, feeling alone in the darkness and wanting someone to be with him.
"May I sit next to you?" Riley asks Shade quietly, not wanting to scare the dragon and then get stabbed.

He wasn't asleep anymore, groaning as he sat up. He nodded, putting a wing around the boy and pulling him closer. But he had dragon hearing, he was clutching his head as he groaned. "It hurts. ... why so loud?!" He groaned, shutting his eyes tightly.

Riley shrugs, trying to help Shade by putting his hands over the dragon's ears. "I don't know. Maybe to wake everyone up and then annoy them all and then tomorrow there's probably going to be a big riot since everyone will be cranky 'cause they got woken up when they should be sleeping."

It ddi help him a bit, so his tense spine relaxed a little. "Maybe."

Riley giggles and nods, "Yeah..." He falls silent again, the siren somehow become background noise and he starts to nod off again. His head hits Shade's shoulder, and Riley pops back up again. "Sorry!" He yelps, the siren become loud and obnoxious again.

Shade used his wing to wrap around Riley, to shield him to his own body. "It's alright. Just try to sleep."

"But if I nod off, I might start to not help with the loud noise and everything. That would be bad of me. I would be a terrible friend." Riley says, keeping his hands on Shade's ears as he tried to help with the noise. Compulsively, Riley kisses Shade. Riley felt warm and comfortable, safe and happy, and he was with Shade, so life couldn't be better - if they were out of the Furnace it would be better, but they wouldn't be able to get out of the Furnace, so who was he kidding.
