(I had to read that last year, It's a very sad story and I hate racism. Made me angry at what they did to blacks in that story.)

Because they came alive when they where 'removed' from something...
Basically they are the outcome of death being removed from something so it doesn't die of old age Xo

Oh....so they're the death that was removed from something, not the creature that death was removed from.
