After dropping her baby brother off at a daycare, Chilli calls an uber and uses it to catch a ride to Scorchwood high, the local boarding high school. She takes a few shaking breaths while in the car, trying hard not to cry, pass out, or throw up. This is too much. I should have just found a new tribe. I can't believe I left my brother alone... She panics, checking her phone for any emergency messages from the daycare or from her brother. It's fine. He'll be fine. She tries to convince herself.

About 20 minutes later she arrives at the school and gets out of the uber. I can do this. She puts on a face that she thought was a strong and confident one, but it turns out she still looks as scared and lost as she is. She drags her bags to the headmaster's office, and gets all of her paperwork straightened out, trying to ignore the pitying looks from anyone who read her bio. She takes her new ID card and rushes to her room as fast as possible. Once she gets to her room, Chilli rushes inside and slams the door closed. She hadn't meant to, but she pretends like she did.

She floated, quietly looking at the school with a scowl on her face. If only I hadn't messed it up. . . She sighed and quietly made her way into the school. Observing everyone around her would be a great tool, especially when she had no desire to talk to others. She watched as a Dark Fey ran out of a room, heading towards the dorms. I suppose that's the office. Cecelia flew inside and registered. It was a headache, especially with all the rude looks the secretary was giving her for not doing it earlier. How could she have known she would be kicked out?! Finally getting everything straightened up and getting her dorm assignment, she leisurely flew to her room. Setting her bags down in front of her dorm to open the door, and watching everyone out of the corner of her eye. Almost. . . daring them to try to take anything. All this while still looking like she woke up on the wrong side of the bed. She didn't have enough energy to be pleasant to people.

She stood on the front steps of the school, her foot tapping impatiently as she waited for Cole to return. He had gone to the markets to get... something, she couldn't remember exactly what- and he had suggested that she go register them for school. She had protested, but had done it anyway. She would do anything for him, and she knew that he would do the same. She looked back at the huge front glass doors that loomed in front of her. She pulled up her sleeve slightly, revealing jagged scars, and winced. You can't change the past, Ember. The only thing you can do is carve the future you want. She took a deep breath, steadying herself, and strode into the building, putting on her best fake smile as she approached the secretary. "Hello, can you help me? I'm trying to register my brother and I for school. We just moved here."

Sienna tried to hide her trembling hands as she walked up the steps to the school, breathing deeply like she had practiced. Come on, Sienna, she told herself, you want to be here. She stopped and waited for Coral, her familiar, to catch up. Coral had been with her since a very young age, and the two had bonded instantly. Coral squeaked, and clambered up the stairs. Wondering about a million things, intrigued with this amazing world above the sea, Sienna pushed open the glass front doors of Scorchwood high.

Assessing what she has to work with, Chilli does a spin, taking in a 360 of the common room, and then sees that there are two bedrooms connected to the common room, as well as a kitchen and restroom. No one mentioned that I would have to be rooming with someone... She shakes her head to clear it of her worrying about ending up with an annoying or rude roommate, and takes the room farthest from the front door. "Is anyone here?" Chilli asks in a meek voice, and then says it again a bit louder after not getting a response. "Is anyone here?" Once deciding that the rooms are empty, she goes into her chosen room and starts unpacking her belongings, hanging up her clothes in the closet and posters on the wall, carefully placing family photos around her room and glow-in-the-dark stickers on the ceiling so that she can read at night.

Ember wandered into her dorm, noticing the two bedrooms branching off from the common room. Of course she put her ear up to one of the doors, and after assessing that it was empty, she dropped her suitcase on the floor and flopped onto the bed, closing her eyes. Through the wall she could hear her roommate unpacking, and for a swift moment she wished she had more possessions.

Upon hearing someone enter the room, Chilli freaks out and accidentally drops a picture frame on the ground, causing the glass to shatter all over the floor. "Oh shoot." She exclaims, and picks up the frame mindlessly, which of course cuts up her hand, so she drops it again. "Gosh dang it." She shakes her head, and then searches around her room for something to clean up the class. How is it that the only thing I didn't bring was a broom and dustpan? She shakes her head, and then picks up her phone and purse from her bed, walking out of the room to go and ask the headmaster if she is allowed out of the school to purchase a broom and dustpan, and perhaps a mop as well. And while i'm out buying things, I may as well do some grocery shopping. Maybe i'll cook a nice meal and share with my roommate? She thinks, her proneness to getting distracted making her mind wander back to food as it always does.

Achoo! A small sneeze jerks Sienna's thoughts back to the present. Coral wrinkles her pink nose and sits down with a mournful high-pitched meow. "I know, I'm sorry it's so dusty in here," Sienna looks around the common room in disgust. Couldn't they at least have cleaned up a bit? Or is it the students' job once they get there? Sienna takes a few steps, surveying the room. It doesn't look too bad, she thinks. A plushy armchair is in one corner, and a small fireplace in the other. Off to the side is a tiny kitchenette, and then a bathroom. Coral squeaks again, catching Sienna's attention. "What is it?" she asks. Coral looks up with a pained face and twitches her whiskers. "Are you hungry? Come on," Sienna walks into the kitchen, her favorite turquoise skirt swishing around her knees. Sienna feeds Coral, then goes into one of the bedrooms adjoining the common room. She had already guessed that she would have to share with another student, and was looking forward to meeting her roommate, to her surprise. Sienna wasn't generally a 'people person.'

When Chilli arrives at the headmaster's office, she knocks on the door and awaits someone opening it, only for a note to magically appear on a whiteboard hung on the door. "One moment, i'm with a student. She reads, and then sits on one of the paisley sofas in the waiting area, kicking her legs back and forth under the seat. Eventually, she gets bored after a few seconds and grabs her air pods out of her bag, brushing aside her long white hair and putting in the listening devices, then choosing a playlist on Spotify. Neat, neat, neat, no crime if there ain't no law, no cops left to mess you around, no more dreams of mystery chords, no more sight to bring you down She hums along softly with the melody, just quiet enough so that someone would have to be right next to her to hear it.

She sighed, steeling herself before turning the knob, when she heard a small sneeze coming from the other side of the door. Of course I have a roommate. I shouldn't have expected any different. She forced a polite smile on her face. If I'm living with them, I can't be seen as rude. Though, if they ask any personal questions, I'll just ignore them. Cecelia opened the door and floated through. She heard noises coming from the kitchen, so she politely asked, "Is anyone here?" Even though she wanted to delay the meeting for as long as possible. It was just nicer to ask instead of closing the door and walking to a room. So she closed the door behind her, and asked again, slightly louder, making her way to the kitchen. Anxiety built in her chest. This is the first person I've talked too since. . . the incident.
