Fern noticed, but did not stop. Kaz said he wanted to loze the chaser. So that is what he would try to do.

He noticed Kaz was about the same speed as him. He did run at his fastesd though, asuming he didn't have too because he was convinced he was faster. He realised then that wood was slowing him down, but it didn't seem to have the same effect on Kaz. So Fern could only guess Kaz was stronger.

No matter, this was a race not a brawl and damn it he would win this. Stranger in the bushes be damned.

Ahead Kaz saw a rotten tree that he could easily push over. It would distract their stalker, giving them a chance to cut into the forest without being seen.

He ran closer to Fern, "We turn right up ahead, got it?" He said, getting ready to barge the tree.

Fern had noticed Kaz looking at the tree.

'Sure thing Kazzie, but I'm helping with the tree. Don't want an unfair advantage.' He said soft enough so the other one would not hear.

"Don't want an unfair advantage."

Kaz sighed at that statement. He almost felt sorry for Fern, anyone could tell he was not accustomed to living outside his safe little forest. Having an attitude like that can get someone into real trouble. Out here an unfair advantage could mean the difference between life and death.

Still, Kaz knew it was better than the alternative. To have no honour at all and no conscience.
His thoughts drifted back to his father and a wave of sadness swept over him.

He shook his head, ~Damn it, not now!~ He scolded himself.

They were approaching the tree quickly.
"Now!" He whispered just loud enough for Fern to hear him and rammed his shoulder into the tree trunk.

Fern felt himself make contact with the tree.

The tree went down. And they went on running.

'Well that was surprisingly easy.'


( Sounds bit like Game of thrones. It seems in this show all the good people, with concience and honour end up killed. You watch that show by any chance? Anyway I do not concider that trait a bad one. To win with an unfair advantage is not winning. If Fern wins anything, he will because he is better, not because the odds where in his favor. Fern loves winning. But only if he earned it)

Kaz indicated for them to disappear into the trees.

"Of course it was, the tree is completely rotten."

(Ah nope. I don't think I can even try to watch it. Too many spoilers from the internet... =(
And yeah I know it's a good thing for Fern to have honour. That was Kaz's thoughts, not mine.)

(Pity Its a good show, and if it comforts you, the show is a bit different from the books so not all spoilers are spoilers. Also if you just avoid the game of thrones chat places and websites, you should be able to avoid spoilers. Thats how my friend did it. She hates spoilers as well. The only down side of this show, a bit bloody sometimes I do not love bloode xp)

Fern raised his eyebrow in amusement.

'So I take it the race is put on hold then. And ahh you want to dissapear with me in the trees. Kaz I am touched, didn't know you loved me that much.'

He teased in a soft voice while dashing for the trees Kaz pointed.
