Watashi no namae wa RuBoo desu! Douzo yoroshiku!
...Sorry, I like Japanese. The language, the culture, and especially some of the anime/manga and games that come from there. I even took a class on the basics! I still can't read kanji, sadly, so don't even ask...

Oh, doumo arigatou! I don't have any such aspirations, I just want to be able to play games like Pokmon in their original language. And read manga/watch anime. Between jokes that don't translate, cultural differences (religious imagery and Japan's lack of real curse words, for instance), texts that don't fit in their boxes, and mouth movements not fitting, there's a lot that needs to be changed between languages. And that kinda bugs me...
...Mushi/ushi becoming "Cow-terpie" is a necessary evil, but jelly donuts is proof that translations suck...

"Doumo arigatou" is the literal romanization of... Okay, Sylestia doesn't like Japanese... It's equivalent to "thank you very much". And... No, that's two separate examples of translation in the Pokmon anime. The mushi/ushi (bug/cow) joke is made in one of the early episodes of the original series, accompanied by the character making it wearing a cow outfit, and "Cow-terpie" is the closest equivalent (Caterpie is a Bug-type Pokmon, and the cow is relevant because he still has the cow outfit). "Jelly donuts", on the other hand, is infamously stupid, in which a character is holding what is clearly onigiri, but refers to them as (obviously) jelly donuts...

Ah. Avatar's not exactly anime, it's western animation that's meant to look and feel like an anime. TV Tropes calls it Animesque. It is a good show, though, and that's an easy mistake to make (I made it, too, initially).
