Don't judge me, I'm really young and don't write much, but I want to put this idea down since I've had it in my head for a while. Didn't know what to title it though.

The Capture
Right out of the egg, Arrow was curious. He had to touch and smell everything within his reach. He was the second born in his litter, so he wasn't needed to be serious like his older brother. Every once in a while Arrow dreamed of being the future tribe leader, but it wouldn't suit him. His brother, Chinook deserved it. Chinook was the pride of the family, he was destined to be the next leader after their father retired. Arrow's mother was kind, but always made him act 'more mature' while his father was strict and expected much of him.
Arrow had a free spirit, he didn't like to listen to rules and be restrained. He wanted to explore every dungeon and cave, defeat every boss, and have a family. Of course, that's not what his family had planned for him. Arrow was meant to grow up, find a mate from another tribe royal, and be a mentor in flight.
Every morning Arrow would go out into the forest and hunt for freshkill. It was a warm summer day when his life changed. Arrow was stalking a herd of faelora that was grazing in the meadows when he heard a loud, pained yip coming from the north. Alerted, Arrow raced to help the sylesti in pain. Little did he know, it was a trap. As Arrow raced through the woods, he stepped on a net. The net sprang up and Arrow was caught. A few minutes later some humans arrived. They walked up to him and put him in a tiny kennel. Arrow had tried to fight back, but he wasn't a Warrior, he was a Flyer.
After a horrible trip on Qitari back, they arrived in a quiet town. The rough men sold Arrow to a little old man. That man had a store full of sylesties, ranging from Kelpari to Puffadore. Arrow was put in a kennel next to a wise-looking Aurleon and a quiet Puffadore.
"Hello," he announced, "I'm Arrow, what is this place?" he questioned.
The Aurleon looked at him warily, "it's a shop," she said, "humans come buy us here to be their companions."
"Yeah yeah, a shop, it's a shop, a small shop, humans buy us, human will buy Hammy, Hammy wants a human," the Puffadore chattered nervously.
"My name is Grisa," said the Aurleon,"and this is Hammy." She turned back around, to sit on her worn-down perch.
Hammy looked at Arrow, "pretttttty doggy, doggy has wings, I have wings, I'm pretty doggy, Arrow is pretty doggy, people want Arrow, people want Hammy?"
Arrow looked down at the little Puffadore, he seemed innocent enough, but Arrow wondered what was wrong with him. Did he just really want a companion so bad it drove him insane?
Escape Plan
The early gray light of dawn shed through a small window across the room from Arrow's cage. Arrow groggily sat up. It had been days since he'd last seen his family. A slight breeze blew through the window, the old man had opened it today. That was perfect for Arrow's plan. He'd been thinking for hours, everyday, wondering how he could escape. An idea had struck him as Hammy had was speaking gibberish about the window. Once a day, a sweet little girl came by and filled up their food bowls. She would grab their bowls out of their cage and into a different room, the storage room, Arrow guessed. She wouldn't lock the cage fully, since she would only be gone 30 seconds. Today, Arrow thought, today was the day he could be free again. Arrow was getting ready as the little girl made her way down the rows. As she opened his cage and walked into the other room, Arrow sprang into action. He hooked his claw on the metal and pulled it open, and did the same with Hammy and Grisa's cages. They quickly shot through the window, Hammy first then Grisa and finally Arrow. The girl entered the room again and saw the three empty cages. She dropped the food bowl, cracking the glass and started to panic. "Grandfather," she shouted to the old man, "The rare nix and the two beside him have escaped!"
Arrow was free, he flew into the sky, dipping and diving, the other two not far behind. Grisa caught up to Arrow, "I must go now, and seek out my mate," she said, and soared off to the East. Arrow wasn't sure he'd ever see her again, but she had been a good friend in the sylesti store. Hammy came up behind Arrow, flapping his short little wings. They traveled like that together for days, trying to get to Arrow's tribe land. Finally, they reached his homeland only to be disappointed. The forest and meadows were deserted, not a single sign of life. Traps were everywhere and Arrow had to watch where he flapped his wings. He was distraught, how could his family, his tribe, leave without him? Arrow landed, padding to where his den had once been, it was trampled, by humans, Arrow could smell their horrible scent. Had they done this to his home? Arrow was frustrated and angry, he hated humans now! Hammy tip-toed up beside him. Together they sat there for what seemed like a century, before Arrow stood up. "Let's go," he said to Hammy. Hammy remained quiet their whole flight. He understood what it was like to be left behind by his tribe, he'd been abandoned as a kit by his mother. |
