Okay, for those who have 5+ points in proficiency you get these cool new abilities.

Some of them, like fireball, have the ability to hit more than one target. How do we select the second target or is it a random occurrence based on the number of opponents/where the opponents are standing?

It appears to be random, however, it will always select a second target to hit if there is one available.

Question: I am training for the NIghtfall Bandit Dungeon and carefully raised my pet s she has 5 proficiency points. want her to learn fireball but the symbol is still gray and I can't seem to click it. Why is this?

The abilities are automatically unlocked once you spend the required amount of points in that tree. So in order to learn Fireball, you must first spend 5 points in the Fire Tree.
