The story focuses around a race called 'demons'. Demons have a bloodcaste system, meaning rank in hierarchy is determined by one's blood colour. Skin colours are typically very pale, greyed-down shades of their blood. Demon blood is mostly black, a very dark shade of their colour. No colour is 'mutant', but some are definitely low-caste. Their spectrum goes more or less like this(The Queen is always red)-

Demons are obsessed with social status, and one's relationships generally have an effect on how one is viewed by their peers. The Red Queen is an exception, as she is the prime monarchical ruler of the lands, and so she is basically immune to such. There are notable more males than females, the typical ratio being 1 female for every 5 males, varying from region to region(Some have a ratio of 1/10 for example, or 1/2). Small sparse isles have more females than males, but that is usually a freak occurrence, and not a reliable statistic. Socially, their romantic behavior is run in a harem system, with high-caste females having a large group of males to themselves. Lower-caste females will usually have very small harems or even just one partner. Violets in particular have trouble with this.
Other odd traits of demons include various mutations, including wings and horns, or even tails. Demons also find the souls of humans to be a delicacy, and some are trained to procure such treats.
Demons are linked to a small, typically cutesy creature called a 'Shade'. The demon in this relationship is the 'Host'. Shades are physically connected to their hosts by an ethereal chain that is near-impossible to sever. Chain is a bit of a metaphor- some can be connected by rings or collars. Shades and Hosts cannot stray too far from each other, and can literally end up dragging the other along. Range is extremely high for high castes and much smaller among low castes(typically). Shades usually resemble animals, and tend to look mismatched and odd. The name of a Demon and its Shade combine to form the full name, which is used in formal speech, where both are always addressed as one being.
Demons may enter what is called an 'Awakened' Forme by combining their energy with their Shades. This form is a combination of Shade and Host traits, but has a tendency to resemble to Shade.
As a race, Demons live in a shadowy land mostly unknown to humans, called Kunoyomi. Names, habits, and style tend to resemble much of various periods in Japan. Shinto spirit gates that dot the land can be used to enter Kunoyomi, but only when certain conditions are met.
Plot-line: ? Open to ideas; mostly I'm taking an opportunity to further flesh out these things.

1. This is very important! Semi-lit to literate! I expect at least a small paragraph(5 sentences) per character you have.
2. No god-modding or power-playing. This shouldn't even need to be said.
3. Please, no perfect characters. Mary-sues and Gary-stus are not tolerated.
4. Once again, don't control other people's characters. Really now.
5. Don't over-describe your character in-roleplay. That's what the form was for.
6. If you don't understand something, ask! I don't bite.
7. Unless you're a dum-dum.
