First issue: MAJOR inconvenience.
I'm finding it difficult that the list limits itself to the pets that are in a single stable.
For how I've organized things, usually I keep my tagged themed pets in one stable, like a stash for "keep these indefinitely in case you want to mutate a new trait into the gene pool" and my breeders are scattered between quite a few stables. Sometimes I keep all the 6V in multiple spots, some as as "keep these as set breeding pairs", others as "keep these for mass-breeding a certain trait I want more of", with the less-than-6V in another stable entirely, because I know they'll be booted once I've cleared their trait line for 6V. Sometimes I put my non-maxed 6V in one stable, and my maxed 6V in another, because the maxed 6V are 100% complete and the non-maxed still need work. Sometimes I have my breeders with high wild stats but non-maxed in one stable, my high wild stat with maxed in another stable, and my lower wild stats and regular maxed stats in a different stable. My breeders are scattered between about 4-10 different stables, depending on what stage the project is at.
The problem is that I have every intention of breeding these different categories *TOGETHER* to improve the whole project's stock - that's the point for me. I take my fully maxed perfect breeder, and breed it to the numerous not-perfect ones that are scattered everywhere else so I can try and get everything maxed out.
Before, all pets of the same species were on a massive list, so their stable location didn't actually matter. It was "select the best male" and "breed to as many females on the list as is possible."
As it is now, I have to track down each individual stable, every single time, just to look, and even if I'm looking for JUST Ferrikki, that drop-down has EVERY SINGLE STABLE listed, even if there are 0 Ferrikki in over 90% of that stable list.
It's a nightmare.
Can we get an "ALL STABLES" option on the drop-down list?

Second issue: Might be solved if we can get the ALL STABLES list? I'm not sure.
Picking a male, and then totally losing the visual data and the genetic info while looking for a female mate, has left me backtracking a lot. This may be because I'm having to dig through a list of over 100 stables just to find what I'm looking for now... By the time I've scrolled to the right stable and found the right set of females, I totally forgot what male I had chosen and what traits he had that I was needing a match for.
Before, it was side-by-side. The male image stayed, so I could glance over and see "You have visible G1/G3/M1/M3, so I need to find the females with visible G2/M2." It was as simple as using the down arrow key and matching two pictures together. Not "change stable, look through all of stable, change stable, look through all of stable, change sta- what did I need again? Check male traits, try to figure out where I had left off on the list of stables for females, WHY is that one in the wrong species stable!? Let me move that. Wait, what was my best male again? Check stables, track down the best male again, try to find females, probably not remember which stable I had left off for the second time I tried to find him a female mate" annnnnd I think that makes my point. That's... that's literally how this goes for me now. I made 0 progress after 10 minutes of trying to breed a single pair of Lupes because I kept having to backtrack. I'll have to resort to jotting down "chose male with G1/G3/M1/M3" and then "chose male with G2/M1/M2/M3" EVERY TIME that I start looking for female mates. That's ridiculous. Span that over multiple projects, and I'm jotting down the traits of like 20 males if I do about 4 projects in a day...

Third issue: I can just not use the feature, but still gonna ask... can we opt to apply the philters after seeing the egg result?
Like for maxed stats, I'm not slamming prismatic philters on every single egg that I make. I check the stats first, and then decide if I want to philter. If I've got a pet with 200 health and a trait that I want to raise stats on, so I breed it to an already maxed pet, I'm not gonna use a prismatic philter if the health ends up at 202. That would be a waste - I can just breed again and try to use a prismatic philter on a result with 1200 health, or even 1800 health.
Tossing expensive prismas on an egg BEFORE seeing that stat result just ain't happening; I've got a literal 90-98% failure rate on eggs because of their stats being too low. Wasting a minimum 9 out of 10 prismas on failed results I'm just going to release because it didn't make the cut? HAH! No... Just no...
Now if I could see "THIS is your RNG-granted stat result; would you like to add the philter?" THEN I'd be extremely happy with the philtering eggs setup. As it is... It'll only work for like, generation one of a project. Breeding the tagged themed pets which have basically identical base stats already, so there's 0 risk. |
Id like to suggest reconsidering the visual hierarchy of Sylestias breeding interface.
Across the new pages, creature artwork is confined to a side column while generic metadata and statistics occupy the central area. The pet information panel lists the owner, species, gender, offspring count, mate, and breeding fee, but none of this tells me if it's the correct pet immidiately. The artwork, which is essential for identifying and appreciating individual pets, is pushed aside.
The same issue appears in the test breed preview, where genetic probabilities(!) and statistics occupy the top half of the screen while the offspring preview sits in the bottom-left corner. On my monitor, the preview also has a vertical scrollbar, and the offspring artwork is cut off by the current layout, so I have to use other images for mock-ups.
I suggest placing creature artwork in a prominent central position and arranging information panels around it. Research on the central fixation bias (Tatler, 2007; Bindemann, 2010) supports considering the center of the display when establishing visual hierarchy.
The goal is not to remove information, but to prioritize the sylesti themselves rather than generic data tables in a game built around collecting and breeding visually distinct pets.
