Last night before I went to bed my pets were at 100% mana today I woke up and there at 33% mana

Every 5 minutes, when pets are not in a battle, they will regain a certain amount of HP and lose a certain amount of mana charge (it also does not affect pets in the LG)
(see news from ages ago when it was adjusted here)

It's also important to specify that, while pets don't lose mana in the Lost Grove, they also don't automatically regain health while in that zone either. Basically, the "regen tick" linked in Scath's post doesn't happen for pets in the Lost Grove.
(The MegaZone is an early development name for the Lost Grove)
