(Hope you don't mind that there's not an image! I may end up finding one for Adam, but I'm not going to hold myself accountable to that yet. ^^;)
adam fletcher
twenty-eight -- male (he/him) -- human detective
Adam is a scruffy looking man, with a mop of unruly black curls and light-skin pockmarked by pale, faded scars. He has dark brown eyes and thick eyebrows to match, with a clean shaven face and a mouth that always seems to be caught in a half-grimace on his IDs. His intimidation factor is considerably lowered by his below-average height of 5'5" and his build of slim, rounded muscle--developed out of functionality rather than in pursuit of attractiveness--with a collared shirt landing him in the lower realms of approachable and a glower placing him far into bad news.
This detective is an emotional man, volatile and fierce, and his employers have records noting their effects on his professional life. He seeks clues and leads with extreme prejudice, plowing through concerns of wayward efforts to push in his chosen direction. But Adam pushes hard and chases information like an obsession, and while others are needed to filter through the fruits of his labor, none can deny their abundance. While elements of Adam's life can be interpreted as leisure, such as his hobby of painting or woodworking, it's a fact that the majority of his interests are related to crime in some shape or form.
Take his pursuit of magic, for example. For all that Adam has no talent or skill in the subject save for his spirit animal, a small Carolina Wren, he's developed a vague, instinctual understanding of it, built not from his cases but from pursuing whispers of knowledge.
The origin behind his fixation, one of them at least, is his background. Adam grew up with pennies and misdemeanors to his name, and it warped him, and now he's in a position to fight it, and if even a week of lost sleep can save a life? Then it'll be a life saved, and his own well spent.

(And here's Corvus, no image of course it's kind of limiting somtime to use them lol )
Veil walkers are a mostly forgotten speacie, often seen as nothing but fables or urbain legends due to their nature. They are shapeshifters able to modify themself to suite most situations tho usualy their overhall look is simply seen as the how they perceave themself. There are a few reocuring trait amongst them, for one they alwais seem to have six fingers and their eyes invaribly are diamond shape. Their capacitie toward magic is entierly conected to their core cluster, a serie of orb shape organs that are capable to produce certain kind of magic, the more they are developed the easyer it is for the user to use this form of magic. Those orbs can be moved out of a veil walker body and into objects, tho inside or outside of the body the cores have one great weakness ; electricity. This kind of energy distrupt the way they work and can cause damage, in serious case it can even make the core crumple to dust somthing that could kill it's original owner.
A long time ago they made a dimention for themself, fleeing from humanity's presence during one the darkest period of history and, to this day they mostly keep their distances. There are alwais a few sighting here and there tho, eather those who had been banned from their own world or brave and foolish youngs coming to see the confusing sight of humans cities. In extremely rare cases, a 'shadow of the old world' is created, a child born out of the veil. Those are different somhow, they dont feel the attchement to their speacie's world, instead they seak human presence going so far as to use their inate capacity to make themself look the part.
This is how Corvus first came to be, a shadow of the old world refusing to leave humanity alone despite their unhability to fit in. They dont understand humans attachement to thing, to words, laws dosnt realy matter if they cant apply to the situation after all. They are well aware that they arnt human but they still try to at least look the par. Since it get easyer to shift to an other form if they arn't constricted they usualy wear cloaths that alwais seem two sizes too big. Their go too human form is was originaly a tomboy-ish woman they had came across when they were very young. Of course some form tweaking was involved, they woudnt just become someone else's shadow. First of all, hairs was alwais an anoyance for them so they went for a very short pixie-cut, then they changed the hair from blond to a very dark blue. Their teaths are a bit too sharp and their skin is still a bit uncanny with how pale it is but they realy have trouble changing the color without making it worst. After some serious amount of work they managed to reduce the hands to five fingers tho they do tend to revert it whenever they nead to use their hands and they flat out gave up on modifying their purple eyes to somthing more appropriate. They woudnt call themself bad looking but they have no idea what human like, as long as they dosnt run her out of town for looking that way they just assume it's fine.
From an outside perspective they are usualy fairly fickle, imprevisible tho there is alwais a raison beneth any of their actions. Since they feel like an outsider, they dont belive themself capable to enter human socity by normal mean, having a normal work, finding a place they would fit in. Instead they turn to protecting what they cannot have every night, only daring to participate as a silent help to the laws they can only understand on paper.
They dont realy have much in term of hobby and the like, well maby people watching. Whenever they get bored of hunting criminals they just turn into a stray cat or dog and wander, watching people's reaction as they go. Somtime they even interact with some humans just to see their reaction to thing, they woudnt admit it but... they use those interactions to test thing out as well, those bystenders just become little experiments for a bit.

Mm, I generally place my police/detectives in large cities, so we can use that as a setting. That gives Corvus more people to watch too. As for a starter, maybe Adam is working on an investigation and he asks Corvus to provide some answers as a witness, only to discover that she shouldn't know the information but she does? Alternatively, they meet and accidentally get into a competition over who's the most observant?

Sound good to me, big city could also explain how she managed to blend in without being noticed right away, there is alot more people after all. The first choice would probably work better lol, she can mimic humans but she dosnt quite understand their limit so she would totaly just say somthing that make no sens and not even realise it. ^-^

Adam pauses on the edge of yellow boundaries, scanning the edge of the barricade tape for clues. Evidence of entry, signs of a fight, footprints; everything and anything. And, bingo on the last one.
The detective crouches down, taking it a photograph of the print left partway on the damp grass and partway on the mud. He'll have to get shoes from inside to compare it to their John Doe's, but its looking like a possibility.
When he rises, prepared to continue his investigation, he catches sight of a woman, watching. He ducks under the line and asks, "Ma'am, would you mind if I asked you a few questions?"
