Some sort of caterpillars feeding on pokeweed. There's debate on whether one should wear gloves or not when touching pokeweed so I didn't get too close. This is a toxic plant to humans but the berries are beloved by birds so I let one grow and trim it back away from where anyone could possibly touch it. Caterpillars are also important food for birds being a primary source of nutrition for many chicks.

I have large areas of our yard that isn't cut at all but is mostly covered with leaves and try to not cut too often if it can help in other places. This helps spare insects which are important food sources for birds, amphibians, and reptiles. That said, places that need to be walked I generally try to keep short and this area has gotten a bit away from me but it's also been raining a lot.

Something to consider when cutting a yard is to wait until late as possible so ground nesting bees have already retreated into their nests for the day.

From the part of the yard that's gotten a bit overgrown thus the virginia creeper that's taken over. I want to eventually get a stone slab to put down under this statue.

I think dragonflies count? It's a bit hard to see but it's there between my name card and the fallen branch. Also, I forgot to take a picture with my name card but I also got a picture of a gorgeous long-legged fly that I felt like putting up regardless as a bonus picture because it's just such a pretty little predatory fly with it's metallic bronze. I mostly see the metallic green ones.

[x] 13. Find a stream, river, pond, or lake. (Really not much of a pond, CA doesn't have enough excess water lol. We have a glorified puddle of stagnant water that refuses to sink into the ground, so we grow lotus in them to counteract mosquito eggs. Our own little pond :)
