Deja - The Summer Sprite
Deja was not born as a sprite, as most sprites are. Deja was born into to a normal family. She had 6 siblings and was the middle child, always overlooked. She lived in the shadow of her siblings. Because of this she often spent her time in the garden, playing with the bugs and flowers. After every day, she would lie in her bed, and stare at the glowing stars on her ceiling. She would always imagine a time when she could not only be praised and noticed by her family but also help the world in the process.
One sunny summer day, when she was 12, Deja was sitting in her backyard talking and playing with the bugs when a rather large bus crawled onto her arm. Upon further inspection, however, Deja noticed that this was no bug, it was a very small, winged human. Deja carefully picked it up and held it to eye level. The tiny creature looked at Deja and spoke.
"I have seen you, Deja, play with the bugs and beetles, treating them as your own, never hurting or harming them. Because of this, I have decided to pass on the title to you as the Queen of Sprites. Since our recent pass of Queen Marigold, Ruler of Sprites, we have been searching for a new queen with no prevail. However, it seems I have found one. Do you accept the title of Queen of Sprites, Deja?"
"Sorry to ask," Deja says, "But what exactly do sprites do? What will I do?"
The little sprite looked at Deja and says very clearly, "We sprites are the Tenders of Nature. We make sure forests are trimmed and do not grow too large, we make sure flowers are pollinated and that they are shining and colourful. You, as the Queen, will have total control over the sprites. You will be our voice. You go to meetings with the other rulers, like Avani, Ruler of Flowers, and Mother Nature, Ruler of Nature itself. Deja, you will take her orders back to us and we will follow them. Of course, you can also choose to tend to the flowers and plants with us."
Deja looked at the sprite and then to the flowers in her yard. She nodded her head and said, "I accept the invitation to be the new Queen." As she said this, a gown appeared on her, she grew wings and shrunk down to only a handful of inches. Deja looked at herself, then the sprite, and they flew off to the large mushroom in the woods.

The Lion is as self-centered as any cat, and much more grandiose. The males of the species show off with bountiful manes, and the females show off with their hunting and fighting prowess. Those born under Leo, the sign of the Lion, are just as proud. They love to show off and have all eyes on them, and their creative genius means that a Lion rarely lacks a good reason to show off. However, their bragging may drive off others who don't agree that the Lion is as great as they think they are.

For the longest time, I couldn't think of a good approach to this contest. Then California, Oregon, and my home state of Washington experienced severe wildfires, requiring everyone to try to stay inside--not to avoid Covid-19 so much as to avoid the smoke.
Everyone, that is, except the firefighters and other emergency personnel. What they have accomplished in containing the wildfires is incredible. Therefore, here is my brave elven firefighter, "Ketrick Shaggymoss."
Ketrick bound his shaggy hair to fit under his helmet, but unfortunately lost his helmet and breathing mask while rescuing a Faelora fawn from a smoldering thicket of brambles. Fire swept through the thicket just as he flew away, the fawn in his arms. A kind fairy at the aid station soaked her kerchief in enchanted water, to keep it wet, and tied it over his mouth and nose. (It's even a patriotic kerchief, which boosted Ketrick's morale.) He still has his turnout coat and trousers, his magical freezing axe, and his wings. With his axe, he can do more than fell burning trees so they fall back into the fire. Every sweep of the axe leaves a wave of cold behind it, extinguishing flames and sparks. Ketrick's wings do more than just fly him around, too; in a pinch, a special setting causes them to fan smoke away from him.
The night is now hazed orange with smoke, but Ketrick is still on his feet, helping to hold the line.

There once was a trickster sea monster that delighted in sneaking up on ships at harbor and watching them drift chaotically after cutting their anchors away. But one day, as she held onto a rope as she cut it, the rope fastened itself to her hand and she sank down to the bottom of the harbor with it. Try as she might, the rope held fast to her, and to this day she remains on the harbor floor where the sea creatures came to dwell around her stationary form, wistfully staring up at the coming and going of the ships.
