the problem is i am choosing like 12 colors for like 6 things on the pet.
and the entire genes side appears to have no effect! so it feels like i am picking mystery genes that will appear later on as i do not see them on my pet.

the pet in question is plain, i select any random genes nothing appears...
mutations seem to do things like add accessories to my pet

anyway, i don't want to do this right now. it's giving me a headache. would like to pick a pet, one color, and move on, but i realize this is not my style game.

cruelly, i can't even look at my avatar until i figure out this mess of a pet.

aaaah, I think I know the problem. Genes don't show up unless you have colors on the pet!

I mean, they're there, they're just white on white.

Here's my first Starter Pet. And let me tell you!!! I was definitely over whelmed in the beginning!!

The sylesti generator (where you create your starter pet) can be a little daunting at first, it's true. I think everyone has trouble understanding what they need to do at first.

The first thing to do is fill in the EC, C1, C2, and C3 colours on your pet with colours that you like together. On all species you will see EC, C1, and C2 as base colours on the pet. C3 will sometimes be a base colour, and sometimes will be an accent colour on genes and mutations.

Once those colours are filled in, you can play around with the genes and mutations to see what they actually do (assuming you don't leave any of those first four colours white). Once you have an idea of what two traits you want to use, then you can choose colours for them that give a look that you like.

Finally, you can fill in the other colours if you want. Sometimes that's too much when dealing with your first pet. You can leave the unused colour slots white if you want. The only thing they will affect is if you breed that pet to another in the future, as the offspring will receive colours in those slots with hex codes somewhere between those of their parents.

My starter, Calianta only received colours in the traits slots that I tested, since I didn't really understand what I was doing at first either. But, that hasn't stopped her from remaining quite pretty, in my eyes ^.^

As others have said, don't give up, and definitely ask questions. This game is still in beta, so there are still things that could use more instruction, or better tutorials. However, there are many, many veterans around that are happy to help out with the knowledge they have of the game until Sylestia can be fully revamped and made ready to leave beta.
