Can I just say, Xerxes is the coolest freaking name ever-
Like seriously-
I suck at names and spend two hours on each person's name, though I'm quite proud of the name Hatter Noctis. ;)

Xerxes is the name of some ancient king (Greek I think? don't remember). not sure why I chose it but it fits, kinda. Also I love the name noctis. Coincidentally it's also the name of a final fantasy character who's just the coolest xD

Google tells me Persian.
"Xerxes I, commonly known as Xerxes the Great, was the fourth King of Kings of the Achaemenid Empire, ruling from 486 to 465 BC. He was the son and successor of Darius the Great (r. 522 486 BC) and his mother was Atossa, a daughter of Cyrus the Great (r. 550 530 BC), the first Achaemenid king. Like his father, he ruled the empire at its territorial apex. He ruled from 486 BC until his assassination in 465 BC at the hands of Artabanus, the commander of the royal bodyguard."

Okayyy! I've returned with a soul-poking question I thought of while playing Vampyr. Great game, would recommend. Anyhow, if you were offered immortality, would you take it (assuming you were in good physical condition) and why? Keep in mind immortality isn't the same as invulnerability - you can still die, just not of old age.

Personally, I would, because I want to explore the secrets of the universe :D I'd also have the time to explore the world at my own pace.

One of my characters became immortal, but her family and friends were not, and I'm trying to show the feelings of watching the world and people around you grow old and die while you're still 22. Another one of my characters is almost 10 thousand years old and as a result has kinda closed off emotionally.

If you have any immortal characters, do you have them think about their lack of mortality?

Personally, if offered immortality I would not accept. If the conditions are only "You can't die of old age" that would go completely against my desires because I've always wished to die a peaceful, painless death in my sleep from old age. If I had to be honest, my biggest fear is pain. Physical pain, that is. When I do get hurt or injured it doesn't really bother me, but the thought of pain scares me for some reason. I wouldn't want to end up dieing from something like being shot, falling to my death, or any other means that could cause me pain. Hence why I say I've always wished to die of old age in my sleep and would not wish for immortality with such dictations.

Sadly I don't have any immortal characters but if you're looking for a good reference I reccomend reading the novel Team Human by Justine Larbalestier and Sarah Rees Brennan. Let's just say I feel like the interactions and emotions of the characters in that novel felt more real than in most.

That's an interesting perspective! Tbh I lie awake far too often pondering my own mortality lol. I'd also rather take physical pain over emotional any day :p
My biggest fear is either being forgotten or not living up to my potential. And spiders. Blech.
I'll have to check that book out sometime, too. Looks pretty neat!
