that is entirely too much neck and is extremely distressing to me.
Like, the sketches don't have enough neck curve, but that's just. That is Entirely Too Much Neck for an bird that doesn't have a longer, larger beak
*whaps down some inktober stuff we did of nytes* just some nice lil neck curvature

Usually dragons have pretty long necks, because snek, so I based more on dragon than owl.

I was going to comment that there is something that bothers me about the new design, but I couldn't place it. Now I figured it out. The necks on the sketches look very weird, the overall shape of the neck and the head reminds me of...a peanut. The current art we have look better in my opinion, with the necks arching back a bit

Those claws look a bit scary...
I like the new design a lot better than the current one (it might just be me, but something seems off about the one we have right now.)

I may be late to the party but the Nytes look good exactly the way they are in my opinion. The new design is eh, looks too "owlish" and they lost their beautiful long necks! I would just up the detail and maybe change the pose on the male but gosh, the Nytes are my babies ;w; i have hope that they will turn out okay.

To my understanding, they always were meant to be 'owlish' though I never saw it in the adult nytes to be honest. The hatchlings did seem a bit owly to me, but not the adults.
Honestly? they reminded me of chickens or the Flight Rising familiars Basilisk and Cockatrice in their looks.

Some players have said the female, at least, looks like a somewhat plucked turkey. Maybe thats it? I myself kind of agree with that assessment. I like the look of the male, but not so much the female, for the reason above.
Where I differ from the aforementioned players is I can overlook that, as long as they have nice (and enough) visible traits. Like these two I have:
