I mean, it's just gonna be too easy if we can grab stuff straight from the ground. No really it would be. Like, "oh i need seeds" punches grasses. instead of going on a small trip to the town. And it's easier then you'd think, especially if the mobs are dropping stuff and you have designated areas to mine and collect.

in that case it would be best to have villagers trade special items
for example

you can get oak wood
but no other wood, or glass

for seeds
you punch grass and get hay seeds to plant to get horse food
( that would annoy some people.)
