Spix macaws, the parrot species that inspired the 2011 movie Rio, are now thought to be extinct in the wild.


Which I find very sad, because macaws are amoung my favorite bird species and these ones are beautiful.

Greek writer Aeschylus died when a turtiose was dropped onto his head by a large bird of prey. Historians believe a Bearded or Cinereous Vulture is to blame, as both are known to drop turtles from a height in order to break open the shells.
