"Good idea Murva just be careful, okay? Don't take any needless risks. Yes, Crimson that could work but how would Murva get back to us? I'll use the fire arrows to help Murva. Aegis can you help get the prisoners out of danger and lead them away while I cover you," Asteria asks.
She hopes this goes well as she starts putting pine resin on some of her arrows. Careful not to get it on anything else she puts the arrows with pine resin beside her but away from Crimson. She didn't want Crimson to accidently light them before they were ready.

Murva nods grimly, backing away from the edge before running off into the darkness. Aegis watches her go worriedly but says nothing.

Crimson tips her head to the side. "That just means we only have one chance to make sure the warband isn't a threat."

"Right. I'll run up-stream and climb down. If there's enough commotion I should be able to stealthily release the prisoners and have them run up the canyon. But if I get noticed I can't fight and let prisoners loose at the same time," he plans out. He gives you a nod. "Good luck."

Then he jogs off in the opposite direction Murva left in. You and Crimson are alone on the precipice.

"Of course you are," he mutters under his breath. He looks up sharply at your outburst, brow furrowed. "You mean you haven't heard?"

Even Felicia gives you a funny look. "Okay, so I just assumed that since you were living on this little thing we call the Anaian continent and all..."

Newt shoots her a glare, but you can see it is more haunted than spiteful. "This is no joking matter. And it wasn't come up with, it wasn't fabricated, it was real. Is real. Councilman Renalt is dead. He was murdered in his own chambers in the heart of Elvenor by a squad of the Toxic Trace."

He fixes you with a sharp stare. "There was... there was nothing I could do. You know that, right? I couldn't have stopped them, it was all too quick. It wasn't my fault. Wasn't it?"

As the light flickers across its surface, the box very suddenly reveals nothing of interest. Skywhisper tries not to look disappointed.

"I would hardly call finding mysterious objects under the floorboards anti-climactic," he huffs. "You're not supposed to find that sort of thing there."

At your comment on Rythia's nervousness, he taps his beak. "Well, personally I think our landlady is a very shifty character. She's definitely got her own strange objects hidden under the floor, the only question is what, exactly." He glares at a rather unthreatening-looking section of the floor planking as if goading it to reveal all its secrets.

"I reckon we'll find out soon enough if we stay here," he muses. "It does make me curious."

Suddenly, the conversation seems to catch up with him. "Woah, hang on. We're not going to this shady part of town Rythia warned you about, are we?"

There are a couple of stalls selling travelling equipment such as tents here. Though they may not be in exactly the same location by tomorrow, more likely than not you'll still find the stall-owners in this same market square.

Brazentalons has gone quiet. On the other hand, it is incredibly clear something has indeed caught his eye. Across at the edge of the market square in a gloomy gutter, you can see something staring back at you. A pair of glimmering eyes sit behind the quivering nose of a large rat.

Brazentalons' stomach rumbles.

"Unless you like, sent the orders or suddenly decided yougot really good at murder, probably not." Nicote shrugs. "And in my defense, I was kind of running for my life the last few days. Not exactly ideal circumstances to hear news, y'know."

He pauses. "So, what's the dirt on Renalt? Anything he did in particular? Also, can i get like a nap or something, I legit haven't slept in like. A really long time." Which admittedly is kind of normal for him seeing as he used to do it all the time as a teenager. Maybe that's why he has such a sassy annoyed streak.

"I understand. Ready Crimson," Asteria asks watching Murva before looking to find out where Aegis is. Once they are in a good position Asteria places the tip of an arrow covered in pine resin in front of Crimson, "Mind lighting it Crimson?"

(I have returned to break the pinglist once again :D)

"You'd be surprised at what I was expecting. Not that finding things under the floorboards wasn't something I thought ever happened outside of a story, I mean, but... let's just say I was a bit worried that I was going to discover that Rythia was a murderer when I pried up that board." I chuckle a bit, recalling what I had imagined could be under the floorboard.

"I agree, but I don't think it's a good idea to go around ripping up more floorboards here. We'll probably get thrown out like an expired bag of seeds. And I also think I've just about exhausted Rythia's patience with my questions. Hm, perhaps we should just keep it in mind for later?"

I lift my head at his sudden change in tone. "What? I mean..." I hum thoughtfully, glancing at the egg. "...You know I'd love to, but I wouldn't want to put ourselves in a position in which the egg would be left alone if something were to happen and we couldn't return soon, and I figure you don't, either."

I turn to look at Skywhisper. "It's always possible that the owner of this box could be in danger, but we don't really know all that much about the situation or of this Thunderhoof at all. If you're concerned, we don't have to go at all-- we already know this is shady, and I don't want to be reckless just for the sake of an escapade. But I'm sure I can think of a few options that would be more safe while still allowing us to investigate to some extent."

Newt's moment of self-reproach fades away, replaced with a steadily more irritated expression as you carry on. It's clear he has a sharp retort on his lips, though instead of voicing it he manages to hold his tongue and reassert his composure.

"All I know of Renalt was that he was a controversial voice in the council and wasn't well liked by the other members. Where they believed the Southern Clans should be delicately handled and diplomacy still possible, Renalt took an aggressive position, claiming a great threat rested in the south and that we should make the first strike before it was too late." Newt looks off into the distance as he recalls old memories as like quotes from the many books he used to read cover to cover. "He was a very discreet man. I never would have suspected he truly had plots to hide until... well, you know."

"You can rest once you're happy you have enough information to impersonate this wretch," Felicia scowls. "The prisoner escort heads to Elvenor tomorrow morning at first light. I'll fetch you from here then."

Crimson nods, tail wagging as she looks down into the cavern. You can tell she is slightly anxious, but she's putting on a brave face.

Aegis is a shadow amongst shadows. You're half sure you see something amongst the sparse brush on the chasm floor at one point, but you aren't certain.

The night wanes on and you still can't see either dwarf. You watch as the clan rises to gather around the one unarmoured orc you noticed earlier. Whatever power he holds over the orc warband with his soft-spoken demeanour and unintimidating appearance eludes you, but they look ready to head off.

The waiting becomes painful. Then, Murva makes her entrance. Swinging a torch over her head and waving her axe, she shouts a vicious taunt at the warband, seizing their attention immediately. The seven armed orcs make their charge heartbeats later. Dismayingly, all four goblins and the mysterious orc remain as the latter barks orders to stop.

Crimson puffs up her chest and coughs up a small lick of flame onto the coated arrow, catching it alight.
