Sometimes when walking around Howling Pass, the map flickers continuously while walking. It doesn't always occur, and unfortunately, I don't know anything that could have caused it.

Something similar has been reported on a previous thread; I hope some of the info there can help you

It sounds like it might be a loading issue.

So the image you are seeing flicker is actually just the background image to the exploration area. The exploration window itself is see through. So if the tiles aren't loaded, you see the background image behind it.

The exploration system is not very efficient at all (it's very old), so it does a lot of unnecessary loading with every action that's taken.

If you have a slow connection and your browser is not caching the images properly, then after every action you take on the map with the tiles it may be causing a "flicker" effect as the map is cleared and then each tile is repopulated.

As to how to fix this, I'm not really sure. While improving your internet connection and your computer's power probably would - those are obviously not ideal or simple solutions lol. The only thing I can really suggest is to make sure your browser is up to date. I also recommend using Chrome or Firefox if you aren't already. And then also make sure your browser is allowing images to be cached.

My internet connection is very good, and I'm using a gaming laptop. I'm using Firefox and it's up to date. Though I couldn't find it in the settings to make sure, I believe Firefox caches images by default, and I haven't changed it, so that shouldn't be causing it either.

Not sure why this happens, but when it happens to me I hit ctrl+F5 to do a hard refresh of the page and that fixes it for me. Doesn't fix the underlying reason it happens, obviously, but makes it so it doesn't drive you crazy, lol.

Just out of curiosity, does this happen while using another browser, such as Chrome?

Also - if possible, can you record a short video/gif of the event happening?

I'll try using Chrome and see if it still happens. And if it happens again I'll record it. Though, the event is almost over, so there's a chance I won't encounter it again in time.

Edit: Still haven't tried Chrome yet (though if I had to guess, it doesn't happen on Chrome), but I got a video of it happening on Firefox. There doesn't seem to be a way to attach files, so I emailed it to the support email.

This seems to be a bug with Firefox latest version for awhile now:

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=705826

I, too, encounter it when using the latest version of Firefox.

Although, it's weird. When I first enter the Lost Grove via the map it doesn't do it. However, if I enter the Barracks and then return to the Lost Grove, it does it 100%. Not... quite sure the reasoning for that behavior.

It sadly seems like a long standing issue.

I will see what I can figure out.

Spent the past few days rebuilding how the exploration map (for the Lost Grove) loads tiles. This did fix an issue I was having with a new feature of Section 2, reduced the amount of data being thrown around per movement issued, and slightly reduced load speeds.

I tested exploring in my Firefox browser and wasn't really noticing any flickering anymore either.

Is anyone else to confirm for me who was also having this issue?

I've personally never had the issue within the Lost grove. Mainly in areas that use the AT and sweet blossom codes. Or fest zones like the howling pass. (Stopped participating in winterfest zone after the first set of contests due to this as it snail-paced lagged when it did not flicker. When it did flicker it made me ill.)

I did update to the newest version to firefox today to see if that helped anything in regards to these areas; it did not. After F5-ing flickering still occurs in Astryl's Tranquility. Hope this helps a bit? x.x

So you have no issues with the Lost Grove map now but do in Astryl's Tranquility and Sweet Blossom Orchard?

Hm... that is odd. They both use basically nearly identical code.
