Are they just a color scheme? Do they have certain traits to pass on to offspring? I'm just curious as to why they're sought after.

a themed pet is a sylesti that has specific traits and can only have those traits when breading with another themed of the same type :)
example:
Emperor's Dragon Zolnixi
Gene One: (KK) Dragon Wisp
Gene Two: (NN) None
Gene Three: (NN) None
Mutation One: (GG) Dragon Wisp Tail
Mutation Two: (RR) Dragon Wisp Armor
Mutation Three: (KK) Dragon Wisp Wings

has only the dragon traits its different with each theme.

It did help, thank you! Most of the themes I see don't seem to have any traits. Is this because they haven't been genetically tested? Or are many just a color scheme?

Themes are actually colour schemes. Some themes are themes for restricted traits so have that set of traits however most themes do not have specific traits, they can have the same traits as others of their species.

The emperors dragon zolnixi above, although it is tagged is NOT the correct colour scheme for that theme. When the zolnixis were regenerated many people changed the colours on their offsprings of the emperors zolnixi resulting in different colours even though they are all tagged. The actual colour scheme for that theme looks like this

Regular themed pets can have all the traits, but the restricted traits can only be added with special philters.
Example: An arctic glacier griffi I used a philter on to give the crystalline wings restricted trait


The example used above with the nixi is a special themed that only has the restricted traits and no others. The sanguine crystalized griffi is one of the griffi restricted trait themes that only has the crystalized restricted traits. But what makes it a theme is the color palette.


Edit: As noted above: While dying a themed pet (tagged or pb) does not remove the theme notation, it is no longer considered a theme by the players because it no longer has the specific theme color palette.

I've noticed that the themed pets are usually way more expensive to buy or breed than other pets with lots of traits. Is it just because the coloring is limited edition? I'm trying to understand the currency/inflation of the costs on this site. I'm just not seeming to grasp it.

i just bread and give away themes when i don't need any gold :)

The price depend of the rarity and beauty of the themme as well as the speacie. There is no official scale to sale themmed pet so it is mostly jugement base.

By exemple a themme that only have 100 tagged pets made from a rendom luck base event (Tom the turkey, weel of pet, angel griffi...) will be worth more then a themme that come from a 'make a pet' event that would have the same amount of pets created. One is a hit or miss and the other is choice based.

Older themmed are also generaly worth more as there was less people on sylestia when they were introduce.
