So, a Puca is basically a shapeshifter, which commonly takes the form of a black horse, from Irish mythology. They're like nature spirits, or Fae. Personally, I use the Fae interpretation. ^^ They are mischievous, but are overall benevolent creatures. They may lure someone into riding them when in the form of a horse, to take them on a wild and terrifying ride, BUT unlike other horse-like creatures, such as kelpies, they don't actually cause any real harm to that person. They can even sort of be controlled during those rides using sharp spurs to make them either buck off the one riding them, or to direct them.. And, of course, the spurs will ward of future attempts at scaring that person.

They are also known for giving advice, helping people who do them a kindness (one story has a Puca helping a farmer after the farmer's son gave it a coat, then later leaving after receiving a silk suit, only to return when the son was to be married to give him a potion that would ensure his happiness), and intervening when someone is about to come to harm (such as before an accident, or when someone is about to stumble upon a malevolent Fae).

On November 1st, they may give out prophecies and warnings to those that seek their advice. That is also the only day when a Puca will behave civilly. Another thing about them is that they have the ability to speak like a human even when their form is that of an animal.

One of the little quirks I like giving them is.. A kind of weakness. They can be brought to heel or "tamed" using a bridle made with three of their hairs.. Granted, one has to then have the endurance to keep ahold of them through the ensuing chaos, but they can force a Puca to heel that way.
