Prepare yourself for a rant.

Lets break it down. PB = Purebred. What does that mean? It means a pet has been bred from /only/ themed parents. So Whats a theme?

When a theme is created, it isnt the trait set that makes it the theme. Its the color palette. I can breed a pet with all the restricted traits from a set, but that doesnt make it a theme unless it has the colors of the true theme. For example:

This is a true, pure, purebred Emporers Dragon zolnixi. It bears the traits AND colors of the theme it is named for! This is what an ED nixi should look like.

This is an imposter ED zolnixi. This nixi has had dyes thrown into the lineage and has created a sorry excuse for a purebred. I do not consider this purebred. ^ I could breed an ED to a normal zolnixi and get these same traits, dye it to look this way, and it wouldnt be a purebred. It is /not/ the traits that makes a nixi a theme, but the colors.

I am fully aware that you cant gain a purebred tag by dying a pet to have a themes exact colors. A pet has to have a lineage that always links back to the themes tagged parents as well. But the point is, users have been selling offspring with dyed heritage and calling them Purebreds. Which is very much a lie.

If a pet has been dyed or some parent in the heritage has been dyed, it should lose the purebred tag. It /freaks me out/ when users go selling pets with restricted traits and claiming that they are purebred when the color scheme has been tampered with! Those are not purbred pets!

Krin, can we just have the PB tags removed after a parent has been dyed? Like, there is a dye symbol on pets who have been dyed. Perhaps either this could carry on to the children in purebred lines. Or for another idea, once you use a dye on a PB that Purebred tag gets removed. We could get a warning saying Once this pet has been dyed, it will no longer have the purebred tag. And if the user hits confirm then walla, they get the color they want and it doesnt lead to any false advertising/confusion/Water rage down the road.

*by the way, to the user i pinged, I pinged you because you mentioned this a few days ago. Did I explain this clearly enough?

I agree with this. If a PB has been dyed, it needs to have the PB tag removed or make it so you can't dye PB/themed.

You did, yes, and I fully agree.

Even though my own themed pets are dyed into specific colored sets for new breeders and still look gorgeous, I honestly wish I could remove the themed tags. My Winter Wonderland Aeri is not a Blue Lotus anymore and it does not deserve the themed tag; to me it's as simple as that.

I also posed a theoretical argument of "If I was to use greater dyes to change a tagged Sweet Potato Qitari's colors to match a Reindeer Qitari's colors, which theme would it better represent?"

If bred to other Sweet Potatoes it would carry the purebred tag but it would look atrocious.

If bred to Reindeers, the tag would be lost but it would hold true to the Reindeer colorscheme.

Both resulting offspring would be imposters to some degree, but only one would still look like a theme.

So yes, I firmly believe that the COLORS are what makes a theme a theme, and the integrity of those colors is just as important as the tag itself, if not even moreso by the argument of prefering a non-tagged that looks true to the theme to a tagged that is an ugly dishwater mess because of color corruption in the lineage. It's what the designers strive for. It's what draws breeders to themed projects because the results are replicated to be just like the tagged versions. A theme without its colors is no longer a proper representation of the theme itself.

Agreed, agreed, agreed, so many times agreed. I've seen these 'purebred' being advertised and just don't know how to tell the seller 'actually, that isn't a purebred as the name is meant to be used' because the tag is right there, apparently making a liar of me. It just seems like false advertising, and what's worse, new people don't know enough to know that these dye-corrupted purebred tagged pets would not be considered PB by the larger theme-breeding community, and that, largely, these so-called purebreds are often worthless. Even in the cases of lovely dye projects using purebred pets, having the PB tag still there confuses new people who don't know what the true colours of the theme are.

I fully support a person's right to do whatever they want with their pets, but the definition of themed pets is entirely in their colour palette, so if they don't have that.... then their lineage just doesn't really matter.

Water another point onto this is the old PB regenned pets,,
like these guys are not themed despite having the tag:

--
These guys are listed as Punch Puffs
--
Also another thing that would need to be taken into consideration is perhaps a note on the dyed pet:
"This pet was once PB, any children from before it was dyed will gave the PB tag due to the pet still being themed at that time."
--
Children before it was dyed need to be taken into thought and considered for.

Agree, but like Living said, as long as children before the dye on the parent are checked as well.

Yes, those poor dragon nixi have it so bad at the moment !

I could see two ways to deal with that issu (then again i am not programer so i don't know how difficult it would be)

1. make a tag removal potion in the scall shop or somthing that could be easilly accessible to any player to remove the tag of a pet.

2. by making it so themmed coudn't be dyed it would somwhat force the players to breed with pets outside of the themme to be able to dye them.

I agree with this, there should be some sort of marking to let you know that it isn't fully PB. Last night I was looking through a line of pets to find one at the top has been dyed, grr.

Maybe something like a rainbow star next to the tag would help??

Like for example, breed to tagged it has that blue star. Now dye one of them and rebreed, this offspring gets a rainbow star. Because while /technically/ PB it has been altered, and to some is now undesirable. Also the star would be helpful to see if a pet was from that parent before or after they were dyed. That way if I have a pet, and /then/ the grandparent gets dyed, I know mine is still PB. I don't know if that would even be possible to implement but >.>

Also, another thing. If there's a PB pet, and then a parent/grandparent gets dyed, will that effect the offspring? Will that mess with the tag being passed on? Just another thing that I thought about

This is what I think, you cant lose what you haven't gained. So if you cant gain a themed by dying it, you shouldnt be able to lose a theme by dying it. If you have ever owned a dyed theme (which Im assuming you havent) there's a big green button that says you can update its colors to match the current design. In other words, you may have designed the theme, but it belongs to the game. Meaning, a player can do what he/she pleases to do with it. Some people want their themes to be different from the rest, if you dont like it, you can rant about it in PM's but, I dont think ths feature is needed as its only going to cause drama, and you probably Couldn't reverse it.
