I don't know if I really count as a newbie anymore but I have some questions I was hoping people could help me out with.
1) Is there any way to search for particular threads or a quick way to locate the threads you've created?
2) Do you get to choose the trait slot when you use a lesser genetic mutator?
I had another question so I'll post it when I remember.

1) nope no search engine for threads yet sadly. You can tell if you made it because a little elf head apears in the bottom corner of the speach bubble before the thread.
2) no you cant choose trait slots with the lesser. You can with a greator though!

What I do be able to find my threads. I bookmarked them. :) Problem solved. :)
If you don't know how to bookmark I can help you...On phone is a little bit more complicated to explain...

Is there any way to tell if the designs you have saved in the Generator are public or private? Can you change a design's public/private status or its name without loading and re-saving it?

1. no, not that i know of AFTER the designs were saved as public/private.
2. sadly, no :P
so i guess the only way is load, re-name/change status/both, delete old one

You can't rename them or change them or anything after they're posted, BUT if you want to check its status, you could search by your user name in the section for all designs. If yours show up, they were saved publicly.
(edit: I also sometimes save designs with "priv" or something similar in the title if it's private.)

About 28 days from egg to maturity,. If you're thinking of caught adolescents of a starter Im not sure, but about ten I think
