Reason for Containment: He was a Murkoff (the place owning the asylum) nurse, helping take care of some of the patients when he listened into a conversation at the wrong time hearing a bit of information he shouldn't have. He was unwillingly put under experimentation with the Walrider (the experimental program they were using), thankfully saved, when the Walrider broke out, before he underwent any life threatening mental changes.
Family: He has a wife and twin boys at home.

A little overview of the game and basic story: SPOILERS
Murkoff is a company reasearching a morphogenetic engine, for what reason it's not clear. In doing so they created something much like a spirit called The Walrider. This being came from the patient name Billy, and soon broke from its confinement and killed many of the employees and freed prisoners in the asylum that took care of the rest. Now armed with a video camera, we must escape the facility to expose Murkoff and run them into the ground for what they have done.

Reason for Containment: He is a journalist, looking for redemption after some hard criticism on his last big story. When he got an anonymous email from a third party he instantly took the hook, driving all the way to Mount Massive Asylum in search of a story. Upon getting there though he found himself suddenly thrown into a fight for survival after being knower out by a 'Father Martin' figure and placed in the heart of the asylum.
