This is what I had on my clipboard, lol. Something I wrote for a Facebook post.

Lessons With Liam

Its been awhile, hasnt it, since Liam has taught us a lesson? And yet, here we are. This will be a short one, though.

All of us have been in situations where we urgently wanted something, and turned to God to supply our need. Sometimes it can feel like an eternity, waiting for an answer. What happens when what seems to be an answer coming our way turns out to be a disappointment, at least initially?

Liam wanted his dinner, and he was especially excited to find out that he would be eating a beef rib for dinner (or at least stripping the meat off of it, that kind of bone is too much for just about any dog, much less one that weighs about eleven pounds). Liam loves beef, but it is too expensive for him to eat it often. So as I took his dinner to him, he was excited.

I put the plate down for him and left him to his own devices, because hes usually very self-sufficient with his food. After about five minutes, I checked on him, and he was no further into eating it than he was to begin withhe had given it loving, appreciative licks, but he was intimidated by the size of it. So he looked up at me pleadingly with his big dark eyes, as if to say, Mommy, it smells delicious, but I dont know how to eat it! Help me please!

I had an idea, so I went to the kitchen. I was acting on Liams prayer, but he had to waitthis is no surprise to anyone who has prayed, as often answers do require waiting. I found a small knife I could use to score the meat and loosen it from the bone, so Liam could better eat his dinner. So, the knife was the answer to his prayer.

When I came upstairs with the knife, Liam was all excited at first because I believe he thought I would bring him something better or easier to eat. He was quite disappointed when he saw the answer to his prayersomething that wasnt edible at all! The look on his face told me this was not the answer he wanted. And yet, I knew it was just the thing he really needed.

So many times I try to tell God what to do, how He could step in and simply solve my problems for me. So when inevitably He does something unexpected, its hard to avoid feeling disappointed. And yet, when I look back on my life, so many times if God had given me what I wanted, it would have been, shall we say, not in my favorGod gives me what I need, regardless of what I think about it (though He also understands my feelings of disappointment at times; he is a big God, he can handle the truth about my feelings).

To finish Liams part of the story, I scored the meat from it and made him see how and where he could attack it to feed himself dinner. He spent a delightful time enjoying one of his favorite meats, and all was well.

Maybe next time God surprises me with something that doesnt immediately seem to solve my problem, Ill remember Liam and the beef rib, and be patient, and see the wonders my heavenly Daddy has in store!
