okay, here we go.

first of all: traits.
let's have a look at this pet's traits in advanced search:



she has tiger stripes visible, advanced runes visible and demon wings visible - you can tell it from her picture. however, she also carries arctic panda and flame spirit horns. some of her visible traits also have a hidden trait - that's marbled under the tiger stripes and jeweled wings under the demon wings. she also has nothing in her M2 slot.

you probably noticed that along with the traits' names there are some letters. a letter stays for a trait, right? but there are two of them actually. here's how it works:

two same letters in a slot mean that the trait is visible and has no hiddens:
(AA) Advanced Runes
two different letters in a slot mean that the trait is visible and has a hidden one:
(BI) Tiger Stripes
any letter paired with an N means that a trait is carried:
(NC) Arctic Panda
finally, two N letters mean there's nothing in the slot:
(NN) Nothing

how is it decided which trait is shown if it has a hidden one? by the alphabetic order. A is above B; B is above C and so on.
however, N (nothing) is always above the others since a trait letter paired with N ends up being a carried trait.

and now, breeding.

when you breed two pets together, their offspring gets one random letter (trait) from each parent for each slot. so it's 50/50 for each parent. let me show what would happen if you bred the pet above with a male one (let's skip his traits so it won't be too complicated). what could she pass to her offspring?

Gene 1: (BI) Tiger Stripes
it's 50/50, remember? so it's either Tiger Stripes or Marbled!
Gene 2: (NC) Arctic Panda
while she has a 50% chance to pass nothing, there's also 50% chance to pass an Artcic Panda gene
Gene 3: (AA) Advanced Runes
it's either A or... A. yep, it's 100% Advanced Runes.
Mutation 1: (BD) Demon Wings
Demon Wings or Jeweled Wings. I prefer Jeweled.
Mutation 2: (NN) Nothing
N or N? Nothing, absolutely. I guarantee it.
Mutation 3: (NB) Flame Spirit Horns
same with Gene 2, nothing or Flame Spirit Horns.

make same random choices for another parent and you have an offspring ready!

now, your pets. what could happen if you bred them together?
let me take a look at their traits first...

Gene 1: (AA) Cheetah Spots
Gene 2: (BC) Tonkinese
Gene 3: (AA) Advanced Runes
Mutation 1: (DF) Jeweled Wings
Mutation 2: (BC) Jeweled Collar
Mutation 3: (BB) Flame Spirit Horns

Gene 2: (NN) Nothing
Gene 3: (NN) Nothing
Mutation 1: (NN) Nothing
Mutation 2: (NF) Lynx Tail
Mutation 3: (CD) Glowing Antenna

and combine them!

Gene 1: (AA) Cheetah Spots + (NI) Marbled
always A + nothing or I = (AI) or (NA).
either Cheetah Spots visible with carried Marbled, either Cheetah Spots carried.

Gene 2: (BC) Tonkinese + (NN) Nothing
B or C + always nothing = (NB) or (NC)
either Tonkinese or Arctic Panda carried.

Gene 3: (AA) Advanced Runes + (NN) Nothing
always A + always nothing = (NA)
always carried Advanced Runes.

Mutation 1: (DF) Jeweled Wings + (NN) Nothing
D or F + always nothing = (ND) or (NF)
either Jeweled Wings or Fae Wings carried.

Mutation 2: (BC) Jeweled Collar + (NF) Lynx Tail
B or C + nothing or F = (BF) / (CF) / (NB) / (NC)
nice one! you could get: Jeweled Collar visible with Lynx tail carried; Nekomata tail visible with Lynx tail carried; Jeweled Collar carried; Nekomata tail carried.

Mutation 3: (BB) Flame Spirit Horns + (CD) Glowing Antenna
always B + C or D = (BC) or (BD)
either Flame Spirit Horns visible with Glowing Antenna carried or Flame Spirit Horns Visible with Ice Crown carried.

that's it!

some conclusions based on how traits combine:

visible + visible = visible
visible + nothing = carried
nothing + nothing = nothing
carried + carried = 50% carried, 25% visible, 25% nothing
visible + carried = 50% visible, 50% carried
carried + nothing = 50% nothing, 50% carried

most projects are based on carried traits - if you get lucky, the offspring of two carries will be a visible.

it's the opposite of my Not a Spring Druid project, has all the dominating traits (those with letter A)

no matter what traits their partner has, their offspring will always show "A" traits. no exceptions.
