Alright so I mentioned this earlier and decided to go ahead and make a thread. I did a small amount of testing to try to fix it.

So basically what happens is that I get a 1 minute lag spike (I timed it) whenever I purchase from the broker or when I accept trades. During this time I cannot do anything on Sylestia but all other pages work normally. After the lag it will sometimes simply load the next page and sometimes I'll get an error page.

"Service Unavailable
The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later.
Additionally, a 503 Service Unavailable error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request."

I am currently using Chrome. The issue doesn't happen with Firefox. I've tried restarting the browser and clearing my cache and history but the issue remains.

Hm. Odd.

So, Error 503 is an error where your browser just can't find the server.

If it's exactly 60 seconds, that sounds like the PHP timeout kicking in - or some sort of timeout. Exactly 60 seconds is a common timeout amount, so it could be quite a few timeouts. But, that's why after exactly 60 seconds you're getting booted to the 503 error page.

I'm guessing it tries sitting there for up until the timeout time is reached trying to connect, can't, and then spits out a 503 error because it couldn't find the server.

So, now the trick is figuring out why this is happening to you and what to do to stop it. It's an odd combination... the fact that Firefox works, but Chrome doesn't. And the fact that it only happens with the Trade Broker or when accepting Trades...

I'll have to probably investigate this for a bit and probably also ask our Host to take a look through all the logs to see if they can see anything.

I'll let you know if I figure anything out.

So did we ever find a fix for this problem that I missed? Because starting a Snow Wars game is one of the things that sets the lag off now.

Nope. =(

It seems it only affects specific players. You and GloriAnne are the only two I know of currently.

I guess I'll ping both of you while I'm thinking about it...

Can you both list the following:

Device:
Operating System:
Browser:
Anti Virus:

Edit: You both have different ISP's and live in different places... so that doesn't seem to be the cause.

Device: Macbook Pro
Operating System: Sierra (10.12)
Browser: Chrome (up to date)
Anti Virus: None additional. Adblock Plus if that counts.

Device: Desktop PC
Operating System: Win XP
Browser: Firefox
Anti Virus: AVG. Also NoScript (but Sylestia is fully allowed)

I will mention, my freeze times are considerably longer than 60 seconds. But I do have a pretty old computer and a slow internet connection.

It's the same for me. It started out at 60 seconds last month when this first started happening but now it's usually several minutes.

And goodness... we have nothing the same....

It's currently 5 minutes because that's what the timeout is set to for our PHP Handler.

And yep... not a single thing really similar at all. X_X

Yet... you two have persistently had this issue basically since it was created. Whereas I, and most everyone else, have never experienced it once (outside of when it was a global issue).

When I'm not tied up with Snow Wars, I'll try and do some research on the internet to see if I can make any progress. =\ I just don't know what else I can do though at the present.

I'm really sorry.

Hey, I just appreciate the fact that you are TRYING. It is very annoying, but hopefully we can figure something out. It just seems so odd that only two people on this entire site have this problem. So strange!

Would it be possible to lower the timeout period to say 2 minutes instead of 5? Or is that beyond your control? It would certainly help the situation.
