I will recommend you to read this guide, and restat/reequip your pets as stated: https://www.sylestia.com/forums/?thread=11101

The main thing to note is that you have to choose between strength and intelligence for your pets. If you add points to one, don't add any points to the other. This is because your pets can only deal one type of damage, so any points that goes to the type that they're not using will be wasted.

So when you choose a proficiency tree, you should pick one that matches the stat profile you've chosen.

In the same way, when choosing equipment, use those that add more to strength/intelligence, whichever you chose, instead of those that split points equally between both/all, or add more to the stat that you're not using. For relics, find those that give more physical damage bonus if you chose strength, and those that give more magical damage bonus if you chose intelligence, instead of using those that split damage bonus to both types.

If you do these, your pets should be more efficient in battles.

When it comes to fighting bosses, keep an eye on your battle log and any symbols on the boss or your pets. Some bosses have a certain pattern, that if you can figure, you can block or fight in a certain way to increase your chance of winning.

Also, it helps to explore in a lower zone before fighting the boss, so you can start the boss battle with full health and mana, and use the finishing blows right at the start. Then use your mend when your pets fall below 75% health if you can.

Regarding controlling pets, you can only use pets with the same level or lower as your user level to battle. Your user level is based on the highest level of pet you've leveled up. So technically you can buy a level 50 pet, send it on missions till it reaches level 60, spend the points, and you'll become level 60 as well. I personally wouldn't recommend that though. Even though it would make the battles now easier since you can control pets that are way higher than the boss. Once you reach bosses near the level cap, you'll struggle with fighting them. It's much better (and cheaper) to figure out battle strategies now, and how to allocate stat points to your pet, and level up with them as you fight through the storyline. Because once you reach the end, with the level cap, you can't use the "high-level" pets to overpower your way through battles.
