Echo, I have the exact same tablet but white! I knew I recognised that boxing, and then I turned around and saw my box on the shelf xD

Sven that's quite a professional tablet! My art teacher in my old school used to use that one. There's so many buttons that you can set up for a variety of functions. No more reaching over to the keyboard for cmd/ctrl+z haha

Nowadays I use a touchscreen computer but man, I kinda miss using a tablet. Since the computer obviously isn't manufactured for making art, the pressure sensitivity sucks and I can barely control line weight. There's also this obnoxious drift on the calibration that makes my lines squiggly even though I'm moving my hand in a straight line ;-; thank goodness for smoothing.

oh no x'D Yeah I have a touchscreen laptop as well (i probably mentioned that in my og post but forgot lol) and i don't like... the slippery-ness of drawing on a screen lol. Somehow it feels less like actually drawing on something to me? I think it's just the glass texture-- I definitely prefer the slightly scratchy texture on tablets. Besides that, the edge of my palm always touches the screen on accident and it's just annoying lol.

Also yes! My current tablet has shortcut buttons as well, absolute lifesaver, saves me soo much time.

That drift sounds really annoying x-x I'd probably get sick of it pretty fast. I have really shaky hands so I sometimes use a line stabilizer, but then it *doesn't* make the line I want and I just turn it off again x'D

There apparently is one now xD Hello and welcome!

Is there a single link you would like me to use for your art examples?

The slipperiness of glass is a bit weird, lol. The other thing is it's a computer, so it can't even lie completely flat! At least my computer is the kind that can also act as a tablet (detachable keyboard woohoo) with a flap on the back to make it stand up, so I can kind of adjust the angle to draw a bit easier.

When I was starting out, I didn't know where to put my arms and would accidentally press keys all the time ToT but now I've kind of gotten used to not doing that. It's really weird - at first it felt like there was no way I'd ever get used to drawing on the computer screen and now I can't even use the tablet anymore because my brain can't handle the disconnect of not seeing a line being drawn where my hand is xD

I've found stabilisers are very hit or miss. Depending on the program, there might be settings you can adjust to make miniscule changes to the algorithm the program uses to smooth your lines. Otherwise, it's just a hassle and not worth the effort

Discussion: Clothing Design

I know that clothing design is only a subsection of character design in general, and the character itself heavily influences the clothing worn, but for now I want to focus more on the technical aspects of clothing design: How does one go about designing clothes?

And what I mean by that is making the clothes not look bland by adding colour variations or accessories or patterns. A difficulty then arises, and that is coherence. Adding too many things at random can make parts of the outfit clash against another, so a balance must be struck between detail and making sure those details look like they are part of one thing.

I've tried my hand at this design thing a couple of times, such as with my avatar item designs, but I find that they are more or less still pretty simple.

Examples of clothing where I think the design is done well, with a degree of complexity, are Genshin Impact, or the many outfit adopts by Quinnyllada (she designs more than just outfits, too! She also does items/weaponry).

Do you think there's some trick or formula involved to start of a design? Or is it just trial and error, and many, many hours of practice? How do you guys approach clothing design?

I don't think there's such thing as an outfit being too simple. I always create outfits based on a few things: the world the character lives in, the purpose of the outfit, and the character's general vibe.

I do, however, think there is such thing as too complex. Honestly, I'd rather have a more simple outfit than an overly complex one.

and of course, there's never enough belts.

You're right, simple outfits are great. I think I might have asked the wrong question in my original post xD

I guess a better question would be: how do you do detail properly?

Then again, it does seem that in fantasy worlds (at least ones where there's a lot of emphasis on visuals) the characters have very detailed/complex outfits.
