"That's okay," Kate said. "I'm used to lifting hay bales and such. I used to work on a ranch." She attempted to lift D up out of the chair

D held her hand firmly,despite her frail appearance,and used her wings to push gently off the chair to help her.

Kate pulled her out of the chair. "Better?" She asked

D smiled and hugged Kate,tail wagging happily. "Yes!"

She was about to speak when she heard breathing. It wasn't hers or D's, and she looked around wildly, holding D protectively.

D blushed faintly at Kates protective hold and looked around as well,her pupils no longer round like a kittens. More a reptilian slit and her fangs where bared.

"Shh," Kate shushed, almost not audibly. "Can you tell where it's coming from?"

D listened for a second,then shook her head with swaying blond hair. She put her nose up a bit and sniffed,trying to catch a wiff of the sorce of the breathing. All she could smell was the horrid stench of bloud and something...rotting. It stung the roof of her mouth and almost made her puke.

Kate's nose wasn't quite strong enough to pick up on the smell, especially not through all the adrenaline pumping through her veins, not exactly making her senses stronger as it would to most people. Kate bit her lip so hard it started to bleed

D gently brushed away some of the blood a bit. "Close..." She said softly,meaning the scent was close.
